His EFG last was 480. He had 4.1 apg and 3.4 TOVs. It's going to take him a while to be a good player.

Edwards had a 473 EFG in college, so it could work out for him.

Trading assets to move up and draft Fears is definitely not a win now move.

Fears has risk but a high ceiling. Sure if we could grab him at 16. But trading up doesn’t seem like a sound decision.

I think he's going to be really good, but he probably wouldn't be in our rotation next season.

Little edit for you on the last line:

I hope the Clippers feel the same.

Yep that's why I would be very careful in doing it, that's what it'll cost to match salaries basically!

Very nice article though, well done

Trade 16 for Simons and draft Clayton at 25? I like it.

I'm not sure Clayton makes it to 25.

There really hasn't been another Fred VanVleet since the man himself. Could Clayton develop into that guy?

FVV was an actual PG in college. Not a converted one.

I’m not sure I see the parallels.

FVV is a lot smaller. Clayton is like 3 inches taller. Fears is .5" taller than Clayton. Clayton is the same height and wingspan as Steph.

I was aware about Fred's position.

Fred has become that on/off guard who can do a bit of everything and defend well for his size using a beefy frame, technique and good anticipation.

I see that being Claytons key to success in the pros. Develop his on-ball skills, build his distribution chops and become a better defender. Be that on-off all rounder.

FVV showed signs of that in college and had less to develop. FVV isn’t a good comp.

Yeah but you see I'm not comparing Clayton to Fred, so it doesn't really matter whether it is or it isn't.

I'm wondering if Clayton could/should mould himself on what FVV has become, as I see him being capable of that archetype.

He could just stay an attack-minded combo that's mainly off ball and not defensively amazing. He might hit McCollum levels if he sticks at it.
