Re: 2025 NBA Draft
I guess it all boils down to... is WCJ a PG in his team? Like the "real" PG?
Cuz if he isn't... then anyone drafting him would just hope he can convert to be one in the league no?

Re: 2025 NBA Draft
Tre Johnson has near identical stats to a Steph Curry’s rookie college season. Difference was Tre was in a harder conference and Steph was able to be a tiny bit more efficient. Steph was not a PG for two college seasons. Steph didn’t even have a quick transition into the NBA either. I was hyper-following the entire league in one of his early seasons and GSW was a coin flip away from keeping Monta Ellis over a young and injury prone Steph Curry. Tre Johnson doesn’t have to study Devin Booker only or be compared to Tyler Herro. He can study Steph Curry and grow into it with ORL because we have no playmaking or offense there to even begin with. It doesn’t get much more of a confidence boosting training ground than that. Do we really think the ‘26 PHX 1st will end up top 4 and a better talent/fit than Tre? Because that gets us into the door for the top 3-6 pick trades into him.

Have my doubts on clayton.
He has steph size, sure
But not as fast as steph. Neither does he have a quick release that makes steph lethal.not as crafty too.

Re: 2025 NBA Draft
Real PGs in college rarely get drafted because they are too small. If you look at the top 10 in assists last season, none of them were listed over 6'1". So 5'11" without shoes.RookieStar wrote:I guess it all boils down to... is WCJ a PG in his team? Like the "real" PG?

Steph is a pretty high bar! But from what I saw Clayton has a crazy fast shot release and got it off under pressure all the time, especially in that championship run. Give him NBA spacing and he could be a serious weapon.
How do you think he compares to the likes of Pritchard and Ty Jerome? Or Simons and FVV?

Rare but CP3 from Wake and Deron Williams from Ill came to mind.. the Jones brothers from Duke.. etc etc. Dont really need high assist number from my PG. I want ballhandling, 3pt range and can set plays.

I think FVV is more comparable.
Pritchard is very crafty with the ball, his handles is better than clayton imo.
Jerome is bigger, Simons more athletic and taller too.
Just not high on him especially to expect him to cover a need. Imo, I’d rather sign a tried and tested shooter to cover a need rather than expect an untested rookie to contribute to a need.
There are a lot of Clayton Juniors every year, he wouldn’t be on top of my board.

3 5'11" players and Deron Williams. I think 99-100 5'11" PGs don't make it.RookieStar wrote:basketballRob wrote:Real PGs in college rarely get drafted because they are too small. I think WCJ can do all the things you're looking for.

Re: 2025 NBA Draft
McCain is the same height as Clayton with a shorter wingspan.
I'm starting to think the Magic should secure him with the #16 pick. He's going to be a 40% shooter on decent volume right out of the gate.

Re: 2025 NBA Draft
WCJ is Shabazz Napier is Cole Anthony.
Or is WCJ someone who’s a draft steal waiting. A top 5 player from the draft and high end starter/6MOTY.

Shabazz Napier was 5'11" with a 6'1" wingspan. Did you come up with this comparison on your own? Napier had close to no chance at make it in the NBA with those measurements.dsg2021 wrote:WCJ is Shabazz Napier is Cole Anthony.

Not unreasonable.

Re: 2025 NBA Draft
Clayton turning out being a rotational player would be a success.
He is just as likely not an NBA player. He is a senior.
People are way over projecting what’s the most likely outcome.

Numbers-wise, WCJr’s 3pt efficiency was the same as Jordan Hawkins in their championship seasons. 39% on 7.8/7.6 attempts respectively. But WCJr did a lot more self creation.
That’s not to suggest there’s a comp between the two, just those numbers being eerily identical.

OK, so may Steph lite? I mean, Steph is a HOF. if we could get a lesser version for a non-lottery pick that had a floor as a solid backup PG, nothing wrong with that.

I would rather have Jase than Clayton Jr.

WCJ needs a big role to play his best and he may never get that chance.
Jase seems better with getting limited opportunities at 1st.

I agree. I'm not sure Clayton's overall talent level necessarily matches how he would like to play the game. He played a lot of minutes, used a lot of possessions and took a lot of shots the last three years.
Not sure how many NBA teams could or would afford him that sort of opportunity, nor do I think he's necessarily suited to take on that kind of role in the NBA anyway.
So then you're really trying to project how he well he will adjust from being the clear cut No. 1 guy on a team that won the national championship, to more of a role player in the NBA. That sort of scaling down process is not always easy for guys.

We can't be calling him WCJ if he is on our team while WCJ is on the team.

This. I have to remind myself what thread I’m in seeing things like “is WCJ really a PG?” and my brain hurts.
