Re: 2018 Draft Thread #6
That was the first time I've seen Porter in a game setting and my first impression was that he is absolutely not a 3 at the pro level. He's definitely a 4. He's bigger than I expected and not particularly quick.
Having a frontcourt of Porter/Markkanen seems…sub-optimal.

Someone could fall during draft night, but at this stage, I'm eyeing either of the Bridges boys and I'd be extremely happy with either.
Mikal has better physical tools, but he is more of a super role player type, where he just fits in and does his job. I think Mikals potential is being the third best player on a really good team.
I think Miles has better upside, though he is a tweener, he is entering the league where tweeners can be successful, and in all honesty, he has the quickness and athletic ability to play small forward full time, with the ability to go to power forward if we decide to go small.
Why so serious?

Shhhh, don’t go spreading the word.
Let someone else take Mikal before us. And Young also.
Miles had a great game no doubt, but that was a huge outlier against a team that was laughably mismatched from a physical explosiveness standpoint. He remains well behind Mikal as a prospect in my book.
However, “well behind” in this draft might only mean a slot or two due to the fall off. So I’m not discounting him as our pick. There’s just no way I take him over Mikal unless he continues to impress against teams that can at least get close to putting an athlete on him.

Let's just somehow draft both Bridges brothers. How cool would that be

Robert Williams is really starting to catch my eye... Unreal athlete at 6-9... Can guard the perimeter... Reminds me of Aaron Gordon when he was at Zona

I wonder how many people even watched the MSU game. If anyone seriously thinks the way he got his points transfers to the NBA then I’ve got a bridge to sell them. He literally just bullied underdeveloped kids. Mikal remains a significantly better pro prospect.

I think Neil Funk's head would explode if we got both Bridges, or both Porters.

He's also definitely a big and won't cut it at the 3 in the NBA.
2nd game back from back surgery. I don’t know what game you were watching but he clearly didn’t have his legs underneath him and was fatigued throughout the whole game. Also it’s known he hasn’t even been practicing (meaning he’s rusty).
I’m just glad you aren’t a Bulls scout cuz you’d prob take Mikal Bridges over him cuz he looked better.
Show teams you're tough? Teammates? The University? Bro if you're hurt, stay out. No one would judge you.

Private workouts matter more to teams than these few games. They obviously know he’s not 100% him coming back didn’t hurt his draft stock whatsoever and if it did and he falls to the Bulls we should take him.
Porter when it’s time to workout with teams should be closer to 100% of himself than he is now. NBA Combine isn’t till May 16th and last night porter said he’s about 67% of himself.

It should be fun today if Villanova sticks Bridges on Sexton today. I know Nova switches a lot on D but it should be interesting.

Exactly. I’d take Young over him. He doesn’t have a position in this NBA.
I hope he drops. It would be a terrible mistake to make a judgment on him based on his first two games back from a 6 months absence, as he rushed back to play. I would be happy if he falls and we take him.

He definitely showed more to his game yesterday. And he clearly is the best wing athlete in the draft.

Porter Jr. can play the 4, but he wasn't even close to the player he was. So saying that he should play the 3 or 4 based off this game can't really be justified imo.

My thoughts exactly when I was watching the game. He's a tweener power player. He's not fluid, he doesn't have a defensive frame at all, he doesn't have ball skills and he shoots from a low release point.
I'm not suggesting you have to pass on him at #9 if Mikal Bridges is gone. But when I watch him, I don't see much of an NBA game there. You'd be taking him based on the hope that his strength and explosiveness will somehow lead to the development of more.
I do like his attitude though. But it doesn't push him ahead, because Mikal Bridges might be the biggest "gamer" in this draft behind Doncic.

He'd love it. He'd just call everyone Bridges or Porter. Bridges (Dunn) to Bridges (Mikal), shot, offensive rebound to Bridges (Portis) who kicks it out to Bridges (Lauri) for three, off the back of the rim . . . BRIDGES (Miles) BUGGY WHIPS IT DOWN!!!

He’s the only guy in the top 9 I don’t want at all.
He is 100% a PF. He’s Niko lite IMO. Niko without the defense. PASS.

That would be a bad idea on Nova's part. Bridges can't stay in front of Sexton....
If Collin Sexton is the "fallback plan" I'm completely comfortable with that. No such thing as a sure thing but I think he's going to be a star.

I didn't want him in the top 5 even before the injury, and considered him extremely overhyped as a potential #1 over-all pick. But if we end up picking 9th, there's no way I pass on him. You have to roll the dice at that point and hope you pulled a Paul Pierce type draft.

Exactly. Only way Miles does anything great at the next level is if he slims down to play SF and learns how to dribble really well. Don’t see either happening.

I'm not sold on any of the point guards as a top 10 pick, but if we go purely BPA and its a point guard, it better damn well be Sexton over Young.
