Follow up, is there a Dinwiddie+bad contract for Randle+meh contract deal to be had?
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

Dinwiddie/Hardaway have been pretty good for Dallas, I’m not sure I’d have them as a negative or a heavy negative at this point.

Why would you move from Dinwiddie to Westbrook, unless you’re looking to clear space next year or the lakers throw in some picks?

Randle at least seems like he could be a reclamation project and get back to fringe all-star status, so that could make some sense I suppose.

Westbrook is the worst possible fit next to Luka.

Randle is as bad a fit with Luka.

I want to say I’d do THJ and Spencer for Randle, Kemba/Noel, and Dallas’ first. Just to clear the debt. But I don’t like it at all.

And NY could probably find a better deal looking for a team where he’s not such a poor fit.

Keep in mind for the $$ OKC took on in the Walker and Horford deals, you can't consider it dollar for dollar value going forward as they were under the salary floor and had to end up getting to the floor anyways (and they still didn't get there despite taking the dead money). The money was going to be spent regardless. Honestly, those deals cost them nothing.

Predicting what type of pick they could get going forward based on how much salary they take on needs to consider how much it moves their salary above the floor, not how much they actually pay the player to leave.

It makes sense though. They’re rapidly turning into a Joe Johnson-era Hawks team, although I’m pretty sure even those guys would get out of the 1st round.

They need a reset. Whoever that means trading, I don’t know, but to run this back in any way, shape or form is the literal definition of insanity.

Can trading either Mitchell or Gobert make Utah better?
I'm not sold it can.

So then is the plan to go from a 45-50 win team to a 40 win team for the sake of change? or try to drop down to a 25 win team and pick 6th?

Utah might be stuck where they are, but where they are is still a solid basketball team. I wouldn't go championship or bust if I was them.

{Now if the players go awol and the chemistry requires a trade well then it requires a trade. But I wouldn't just shake it up unless forced to.}

Like this?

Utah - Russell, (Team X forward), 2 Minnesota 1st rounders
Minnesota - Mitchell
Team X - Conley, Minnesota 1st rounder

I guess Jerami Grant make sense. Detroit can get a good season from Conley with Cade, Bey their draft pick and Stewart in a starting 5 and then move Conley for a late first or couple of high 2nds at the deadline.
Where's the D?

Something like that, yes.

Though I do quite like McDaniels from Minnesota so were I in the FO I'd push for him to wind up in Utah.

Would Toronto have any interest in Mitchell? Seems like they could use the scoring punch and have enough defensive minded players to put around him to make it work

I think he'd fit fine there, but I don't really think any of their offers make sense.

I know Oladipo is unrestricted, but what dollar figure would the Heat match for his next contract? Thinking he may be worth the MLE.

Yeah I think they'll match that and try to get off Duncan Robinson who, if I'm not mistaken, is about to get a DNP-CD

Makes sense. Still unsure about what happened to Robinson.

He's still good at what he does, it's just that pure shooters aren't really that valuable imo. He dropped off a little as a shooter so now it's better to have a good shooter that can defend like Struss vs a great shooter that can't.

Being elite at one thing and not particularly good at anything else leaves very little room for drop off.
