What would be shocking about that? It wouldn't even warrant an anouncement. Look at the Begley interview...I think it is very telling...Begley also is someone that usually knows a bit about the stuff going in with the Knicks (like CP).

I don't think Jalen signs off on Tom being fired after a Conference finals run.

Now if we flame out next season? All bets are off.

yeah. you can think thibs is not doing a good job AND recognize what the players did or didn't do. these are never zero sum discussions.

Yeah i have to step back and be objective.

No, Tom did not coach a perfect playoffs.

Yes, he made adjustments that helped get us 2 wins away from making the finals.

Yes, Shamet and Wright should have been playing well before May.

No, the players did not play with a sense of urgency.

No, the players did not pay attention to detail. We know the perpetrators and it starts with our Captain.

So there are a lot of reasons why we are home right now and they all should be evaluated.

However I don't think Tom is gonna get fired. But he definitely has to adapt to this roster and also to aspects of the game that aren't in line with his philosophy.

i want to be clear, i was not challenging your objectivity. or anyone else's.

and this wasn't a pointed thought at anyone. i just feel like it's easy to have and believe in a point and kind of see everything else as a threat to that position. it reduces a lot of good and thoughtful folks into... i don't know... combatants? there's room for more than we allow sometimes.
RIP magnumt

thanks for everything, thibs.

Why not? If they regress, so be it.

We've already seen the zenith of what Thibs can bring. Time to move on.

Leon Rose was KAT's agent.

Leon Rose traded a lot of draft capital for Bridges.

I just don't think he pulls the plug year one into this. Its far easy to shake up coaching if you need that but he is also close with Thibs.

An organization that relies on relationships might have some difficult decisions ahead.

Now they did trade Donte who obviously has the nova connections but not the CAA connection which is very prominent around the Knicks.

I think if you get a similar talent back for Bridges it could be done. If you keep KAT, you desperately need a defensive 4/5 guy like JJJ who happens also to be on CAA, is in the last year of his deal AND didn't qualify for a supermax (so other teams can make more competitive offers for him).

If he threatens to leave Memphis, trading them some package centered around Bridges while keeping KAT is an intriguing scenario.

Then trade McBride, Kolek , Tucker (salary filler) for Divo

JJJ/Mitch/KAT
KAT/JJJ/OG
OG/Hart
Divo/Hart/ Wright
Brunson/Wright/ Divo

This is one of the best suggestions so far.

Thibs gets moved to a front office role (head scout or some crap) and Brunson's dad becomes his personal trainer and is on the coaching staff. These things can be done... Then if Thibs takes a coaching gig elsewhere, we get out of his salary.

And whomever the person or people were that told him to use the bench, they can now say playing Shamet and Wright earlier in the series could've been the difference in the series.

TJ McConnell was too physical for Deuce and the moment Shamet and Wright started defending him, he was non-existent on the offensive end.

so deuce and payne weren't supposed to get a chance in their roles? or would we call that an adjustment?

speaking of shamet, he was in the 9-man rotation in the detroit series but not in boston because...

wait for it...

boston went 8 guys instead of 9 and the knicks scaled down for the matchups. 9th/situational guy was precious for size reasons. same argument being made for the shamet adjustment to mcconnell.

When it comes to McConnell I was saying Thibodeau could've tried using Shamet from the beginning of the series, because McConnell did the same thing to Deuce in the series last season, and Shamet and Wright's height looked to be the difference this time around.

This is an issue with Thibs, where it seems like he'll stick with a guy "because", lose a game, and THEN adjust.

It's not that he doesn't adjust, it's that he's SLOW to adjust or doesn't predict the issue like other coaches do.

No one is saying Thibs sucks (ok, some are) but I think there's a world where his style and mentality is costing some points and even outright games, and in the playoffs, those can't be spared.

Like, Thibs is 95% fine as a playoff coach. Knicks need to find the guy who is 100% dialed in

This is the only nba job jay might take. But I don't think he'd take it now. He'd consider if Thibs flamed out next season perhaps. But one thing he'd do is MAKE ADJUSTMENTS.

When KAT was traded here many of us were HYPED for a Brunson/Towns pick and roll that had the potential to be UNSTOPPABLE. Was it ever used? Nope.

When all the signals of guys being overused to the point of a constant threat of breaking down, it was scoffed at. When all the advanced stats said the starting lineups were ineffective to an alarming rate, we were GASLIT. The defensive philosophy of protecting the paint at the expense of an avalanche of 3pt attempts hurt us all year.

Did anything ever change, or did this coach ever adapt without the treat of TERMINATION?

This has been a complete failure of deployment and management by the coach.

Don't get my hopes up. But I'm thinking Wright is about to come in and the Old man goes to the office as assistant GM. If that's the case, SALUTE to the front office.

Next move would be to bring in Oubre and try to get Divo back via trade with the Wolves.
