Before the Frank haters smoke you on this, that's not enough. In fairness, even DSJr wouldn't be enough.

Not in this draft.

MAYBE a player (not Frank) and a FRP in another year and the swap. In a normal draft, where the #1 is good, but so the 2- 5 are a lot closer. The reality and perception of this draft is that Zion is >>>>>>>> 2-5, that basically trading anything to move even one spot, no less 4, basically isn't happening.

Ok, since never say never, in a super imaginary, totally speculative scenario, the Knicks have the #2, the team that gets the #1 has a super stud young PF blocking Zion's natural position, but that stud PF really isn't suited for C and then maybe also needed a PG, the Knicks could switch #2 for #1, including Smith Jr AND future FRP...and maybe. And as I type it, it feels like....nah, not even.

True - only way is if someone has another player actually rated higher than Zion but you know you can’t not take Zion so you trade down 1 or 2 spots to get RJ or Ja or whoever you actually want while getting another tier 1 asset. Think about the Fultz / Tatum & future unprotected 1st deal.

Yup. And even if someone's opinion is "Zion isn't all that" (I think he is), everyone's consensus is he's just better than the other guys, with zero doubts. I just don't see a team trading within the draft with Zion. Now, in spots 2-10? Deeper? Sure.

You asked and now you want to complain about the answer? :D

Zion is just clearly better than the other guys. Does he have flaws? Yes. And RJ is really good, but has legit concerns about being more straight line in his drives and also his defense is pretty bad. Still, RJ is good. The gap between Zion at 1 and RJ at 2 is obvious, but not as much as it is vs Zion at 1 and Cam\Culver\Ja?\Clark?\Romeo? at 3.

Anyway, looking at past times teams switched, it took a FRP and the talent level between the players seemed closer coming out of the draft. Frank was a FRP, but his value is probably low FRP right now .

And a bet a couple of the guys in draft, anywhere from 2-15 - one, or two, have a career not that far off from Zions. I'm far from a draft expert on here. But some touted guy in the top 6 puts it together in 3 years, and some random guy less focused on is really good.

Franks value at the moment is a second round pick. If the knicks could get a first for him he would already be on another team.

Thanks for your expert analysis. You don't know any better than I or any of us. We just don't know that.

Surely there are 2nd rounders who have outplayed him, yet in some ways he's outplayed some latish 1st rounders of the last few years. A lot of it is perceived upside and if a team needs a wing defender etc. And maybe the Knicks would have moved him already "if he was worth a first" but on the other side of the equation, they may value him in a role, or are just waiting until next season, and have been for a bit, to include in a package. We don't really know, other than their odd love affair with Mudiay is an indication that they don't like Frank all that much. At least that part is obvious.

Before I saw yesterday's box score (didn't see game) I wondered if it would be 4/12 or 3/12 for Knox. Sure enough, 3/12. That Posting&Toasting piece is pretty devastating. And he didn't show all that much at Kentucky either.

yes, even though he has shown his defense needs improvement. Knox has shown some of the talent and upside that he has. In the years to come those displays will become more consistent. While Frank hasn't shown much improvement anywhere. In fact he has regressed in most areas. So again, Knox and its not close.

i actually think knox does. simply because he's a rookie. he comes back and looks like this next year and his value plummets. i'm sure frank had more value in the summer than right now.

An offensive player normally will have more value than a defensive player even though folks will always say defense wins championships.

Knox just needs to get his efficiency up....tough task I admit. Frank even with elite (debatable) defense at best is a role player if he doesn't develop a game on offense.

that's true too. i also don't think last year we realized frank would be this bad on offense in year 2. but he is.

No one would ever do that trade with us. We couldn’t get the #1 pick for Frank + #2 pick.

In all likelihood, there's no combination of assets that lands Zion.

They are both role players if they don't develop, which is ok. Agree with the rookie vs not rookie part, etc, ultimately

Or he could become a big goofy looking THJr, a volume scoring, no passing wing who doesn't defend and makes a team worse. Which hey! could be better than Frank! and could also sort of suck! but at least maybe won't be paid 18 million per by the Knicks!

While frank is the better player and will help a team win, Knox has more value as of now because frank is hurt and hasn't played in a while.

But frank is the better player, easily.
