Don't think there's much they can do to drastically change that '16 pick besides making it worse.

Of course it is bad for us.

For this year though? I don't think it make much difference. It may even help us if Brown proves to be worse than Hollins.

I'm leaning towards this being good for us. I could see King stubbornly making deals to incrementally improve the team at the deadline and this offseason. A new GM isn't tied to the mistakes of the past and is more likely to sell off pieces to get back into the draft.

Just meant that losing King is inherently bad going forward, but I wasn't talking about this year. I think this is great for our pick this year.

They'll probably get a very short term bump. But Hollins has always been a decent coach and if anything he's gotten them to overachieve in the first half; this is probably good long term.

Honestly I feel like Hollins has been pretty poor this year.

At least the new guy won't be spiteful towards the Cs which could mean they go towards trading vets who don't have future with them in favor of younger guys without being heavily focused on "Celtics f**d us up, we won't surrender pick #2, we have to give #3". And it could be productive for their long-term future.

Huh. Wasn't even considering this.

King is still part of the organization it seems? I wonder what his role will be going forward? Unpaid intern?

Terrible for us IMO. I don't care what anyone says...we WANTED Billy King running that show. Fab Melo could do a better job as GM over Billy. The pepper master was the best part of the outsourced tank.

No way to know for sure that this is bad for us moving forward. If they fully clean house it's amazing for us, and I don't think King would have gone there. They're already skating uphill in terms of attractiveness as a FA destination.

I know King has been the butt of all jokes, but Russian wanted the splash, his (lack of) vision is the main reason why Nets are in this situation.

I don't think this changes anything for us, the damage is already done. They don't have their draft picks so they're pretty much forced to try and be competitive until the summer of 2018. I seriously doubt any good coach is willing to take over this team right now, so that leaves them with very few names that could move the needle.

If the rumor, that former GM of CSKA Moscow is going to take over basketball operations, is true, this is actually a good news for us because his motto is 'outspend everybody' - we know things don't work like that in the NBA.

I wouldn't be surprised if Russian goes of the rails and gives full power to a guy like Calipari. Now, that would be fun.

Definitely anyone they bring in will be a better GM, but even the best GM couldn't dig them out of the bottom of the barrel for another couple years. I'm cautious, but we will see.

Whoever they bring in will be high profile. Book that. That's a scary unknown when discussing free agent signings, etc. King wasn't convincing anyone of value to go there.

Maybe they'll bring in Mike Malone as the coach and trade Brook, Young and RHJ for Cousins. We can then watch every member of this forum jump off the proverbial Cliff in unison. Lmao.

I think the new GM will try to get assets for Lopez and Young.

I'm going to amend my position slightly:

I think it makes little difference for the 2016 pick.

I think it will be good for the 2017 pick.

I think it could be bad for the 2018 pick.

No interest in trading for Brook. The only saving grace for the nets is to completely blow it up and sell off anything of value for youth and picks. I don't see how they can get any free agent to sign there either, this is gold for the celtics for the next 3 years IMO

Lee + Zeller + Mavs 1st rounder for Brook Lopez.

Get it done.

Doesn't matter what the Nets do at this point. Their problems since this trade are deeply structural. No picks, no prospects, no trade assets, no ability to outspend anyone and no desirability as a FA destination.

Their only option is to wildly overpay a 4th tier FA or two, same as it has been all along.
