And that is where I was going with my post. In fact the last team to win an NBA title with out a allstar big man was the 1998 Bulls. Jordan will and forever be the greatest wing player in NBA history because of how and when he won his championships.

Again, very poor logic. What you are saying is that ANY wing player who plays with an allstar big man will automatically be disqualified for being the GOAT/GOAT wing player, right?

I would put him slightly below Bird so #7 all-time.

wow you guys have some issues with your love for jordan. None of the kobe fans here said he was better than Jordan but you guys feel the need to say it out loud like you are reassuring yoursleves. If you are going to say kobe has had a lot of help around him, i dont think jordan is a good example. He had one of the most stacked teams, ever. Again, im not saying kobe was better than jordan, so dont get your panties in a bunch.

No one even mention Jordan's name in the thread till you did. Great job. ;o

Personally on my own list, realistically he can climb up to 2nd all-time as Laker, and very likely number 7 on all time greats of the game. He still has a lot left in the tank and those accolades, achievements, and numbers are just going to keep piling up if he remains healthy.

Who do you see as the best laker? Magic, Kareem and Shaq all can make arguments, which is saying how great the laker franchise has been with arguably 4 of the top 10 players of all time playing for them. Kobe may set all the records for the Laker franchise, but honestly if you had a draft with all those players in their prime, Kobe would be the last guy I would select. Thats not a knock against Kobe, just a testament to how great the Laker legends are.

I don't believe in jinxes/karma after the charades Kobe pulled in the 2006 and 2007 offseasons and they stll got giftwrapped Gasol.

At the moment, my all-time Lakers list (short) would look as:

Magic
Kareem
Bryant
O'Neal

It is not about starting out new with whoever. To me, it's about what that individual player did for his respective team and franchise. Reason being why I strongly advocate O'Neal being no higher than 4th on any Lakers list. His career was far too short lived too be compared up there among the guys who basically bled purple and gold. Magic, Hook, Mamba. I don't care how great he was in the eyes of outsiders (who mainly pay attention to his amazing individual numbers a lot of the times), but the majority of his career wasn't spent in LA so his accolades and what he's meant to the Lakers franchise diminishes. When talking about who I would start a team with, that's completely different. But oddly enough, my list would look probably similar.

Players I would definitely rank ahead of him:

Jordan
Magic
Bird
Kareem
Wilt
Russel

Guys which he's in the same tier with
Shaq
Hakeem
Timmy
Kobe

edit I'm going to the throw in Oscar Robertson into the mix too as same tier

Big O is in the top tier. The only reason he did not win as many titles as the other guys was because he played in Cincinnati for most of his career.

The answer to this question all depends on how highly you view a players prime. Kobe's prime doesnt really match up to any of the top 10 of all-time, however, he could potentially go down with the most successful career ever. He could potentially retire with 6-7 rings, 2-3 Finals MVPs, 8-9 FInals appearances, most 1st team selections, most 1st team D selections, 2nd in career points, 1st in career playoff points.. The list goes on and on for what Kobe could potentially retire with.

As of right now 7-9 range. If he wins 1 more title 6-8 range. If he wins two more titles? Probably 5-7 range.

Clearly he is already in the top 10. Hats off to him. I don't see him cracking the top 5 though.

Top 10. Not sure how you can rank who's who and what's what once your inside the top 10 list. Its nearly impossible because your going to have great argument for everyone.

Probably still a bit below Magic, tied with or over Bird. It really depends in his finals run. If he dominates, and produces a dramatic and memorable finals, then it'll be a crazy time for realgm lol.

No one has any argument for being above Magic. Most Lakers fans don't even consider Shaq above Kobe at this point (in terms of Lakers greats), so I'm not sure why you're including him. Kareem is widely seen as #2, and #3 is pretty close between Kobe and West.

To answer the question, I think Kobe separates himself from Hakeem and becomes interchangeable with Shaq and Duncan, which puts him in the 7-9 range.

Barely in the top 50, he won 3 of those rings as a bench warmer.

definitely passes Hakeem and will have argument for passing duncan or shaq.

I could never say that about KG. Even though he is a great player. In some way even in his prime he is Joakim Noah with a jump shot and a little better post game. Outside of that they have the exact same skill set.

doubtful. Duncan and Shaq (3/4) were the man. Kobe only has that title once (twice now). Maybe above Shaq. He needs 6 to pass Duncan.
