Managers don't matter. Like, at all. That said, we will get an opportunity to see just how (Please Use More Appropriate Word) this organization is. If this management team goes out and drops big coin on a manager, it's official: they're incorrigibly (Please Use More Appropriate Word), because:

1) managers don't matter, which means any big expenditure on a manager in any case ever is money wasted that could have been better spent on players
2) the Cubs are very bad, and their contract situation guarantees that they will continue to be very bad for the next 3 years minimum, thus rendering the manager that much more irrelevant
3) the Cubs are very strapped for cash, and given the above points, allocation of resources is especially important now; allocating big money towards a manager when the team has no potential would be doubly idiotic

All this said, I've disowned the Cubs in particular and baseball in general, and thus I hope they will do the stupid thing and sign Girardi for $10M a year or something like that. That'd be hilarious. Hiring Sandberg and having the fanbase hate him within 2 years wouldn't be bad either. The smart move, btw, would be to just hire Quade for small coin, so I doubt that will happen.
