Damn we seem to be over-rating a kid we've never even seen play for our team. Randolph has ridiculous potential, but right now he hasn't done much to answer the questions about him, namely his toughness, BBall IQ, durability and strength. Kid's going to take some time to become any sort of offensive force yet you guys seem to be building your hopes up too much. He could be a stud, could being the operative word. I just want to see him come in and bust his ass to learn and help the team.

For some reason I keep thinking about Darius Miles when I think of AR. All the potential in the world but not very coach able. Doesnt make sense why Golden State would get rid of him or not give him proper mins if he is soo amazing. I sincerely hope I am wrong and the guy becomes the player his potential allows him to be.

Don Nelson also traded Chris Webber who he did not like and he was sooo amazing.

Great mix Big C, as always. I'm really excited about Randolph. Although his game isn't the saem, he reminds me of Camby at that stage of his career. Lots of potential, too skinny, history of not being able to stay healthy. I can't wait to see him running the floor with Gallo, Felton, Amar'e and Chandler.
I hope everyone is well. It's nice to be back. So much to talk about
Welcome back. I'm glad your family health issues are resolved.
I second this. Family is more important than the Knicks all day any day. Glad you're back.

I don't think he should play center. At times he can, but he really needs to play at forward.
i dont want him to play center but i dont want amare to play center either...thats why im really hoping mosgov can prove to be a real good pickup and just be a solid player at center for us to allow our other players to play in position,,.maybe even turiaf to get some minutes at center

People list Tony Slim as our center because he needs to be in our starting lineup. Clearly any lineup with Tony Slim in it is our best one. Gallo is our ideal SF and Amare hates playing Center so by process of elimination fans designate him to the C spot.
This lineup under the SSOL offense would be amazing
Ray Ray
Chandler
Gallinari
Tony Slim
Amare

Re: New Anthony Randolph Mix: What's his potiential?
There are diferent tiers of prospects in the NBA:
You have good prospects like an Eric Gordon, Wil Chandler, Jeff Green, Gallinari.
Then you have elite prospects like a Russell Westbrook, Steph Curry, Derrick Rose, etc. Anthony Randolph falls in that elite category.
I have never been this excited about a Knick prospect in the 12+ years I've been a hardcore Knick fan. He has the potential to be a top 10-15 player in the entire league one day. Will he reach it? I'll let you know as the season plays out. One thing is for sure though...he is the best prospect on the entire team, and probably the best prospect we've had in 20 years. People will go ahead and say Gallo is, but if we had drafted Randolph and acquired Gallo via trade you guys would be on A.R.'s nuts.
This is a guy that makes me proud to be a Knick fan. He is a legitimate elite prospect. I don't care if it sounds cliche but he will become a more aggressive and athletic Lamar Odom. It's the best comparison out there and theres a very high degree of certainty that he will fulfill those expectations. Can you imagine if Lamar Odom wasn't so passive? Beast....

Hell, I think right now he could play the 2 guard.

Offensively i think his "potential" can be a poor man's Kevin Durant.
Defensivly Marcus Camby
So a mix of Poor mans Durant/Camby
I'm going to get Martared for saying that. He'll never be a 30ppg scorer, but he has the ability to be a first option.

Yeah I really hope that Mozgov turns out to be a very good pickup for us as well. I also expect to see Turiaf get a lot of minutes at center. Hell, he will most likely be our starting center.

D-Lee wasn't a center either but that's why he became an all-star since he was able exploit his strength of a midrange jumper against slower centers. AR quick, got a handle, and a J he should do well at the 5.

I see brilliant skill and athleticism
I also see fragility and out of control
I hope he can bulk up and learn to play the right way

+1
Agree with everything you see. If he can bulk up and play under control (of himself) he'd be a beast.
That's why I rate Gallo over him right now. Gallo has put on some muscle and seems to be more durable. If Randolph can put on some muscle mass he'd be right up there or above Gallo. Still like Randolph but his thin frame scares me. If he stays as he is it's bound to catch up to him.

I honestly was going to write a huge post about Randolph, but this sums it up in a nutshell.
Randolph has crazy potential, but he has a way to go. He needs to find a niche on offense right now, because he simply cannot be a go to scorer as of right now, and he needs to stop playing like Lebron (physical ability) and become a Kobe (skills and smarts).

I know I'm just a ballboy jerk off, but I really like this kid. I've watched him close for the last couple of years. I drafted him high in my fantasy basketball league. He really can put up huge stats. I never understood why Nelson didn't play him more. He seems like he has to get it together mentally. You can see him sometimes looking like he's gonna cry. I'm hoping under D'Antoni he can break out..like a Shawn Marion with more height and versatility. He's the new Knick i'm most looking forward to watching.

Re: New Anthony Randolph Mix: What's his potiential?
Stop looking at highlight reels and then talk about a player's potential.
As for Paeds above; trading both shouldn't be an issue. Any high level trade would have to include one of them, but I don't think trading both in one single trade is an option for the Knicks. Maybe for an absolute superstar, but in any reasonable trade we might make, it's going to have to be either Gallo or Randolph, not both.

His mid-range shot is good
No it isn't. He shot 33% on jumpers his first two years. He has no jumpshot yet. He has a ton of potential though.
Also for his defense: Imagine a shot-blocking version of David Lee as both allowed their opponents to score a basement-dwelling 51 percent on post-up situations, according to Synergy Sports Technology.
He really has to add strength. If he does that he can be a great player.

Re: New Anthony Randolph Mix: What's his potiential?
Wow. I cannot begin to state how high you guys are. Have you seen him play? Like, has he been playing for the Knicks this summer, or are you going on Youtube highlights?
Please, give the kid a break, you're setting him up for failure.
The one point I would like to address is some misconceptions about his dribbling skills - yes he is a good dribbler for a (near) seven footer. I remember cringing when Kareem had to touch the ball in the open court (I cringe for AR too but for different reasons). But still he is a way worse dribbler and ball handler than even your average two guard. If he has the ball in his hands too much he's a turnover, wild pass, brick shot, or charge waiting to happen.
Your keys to success: Limit the ball in his hands. Let him stay around the basket. Don't let him shoot, let him finish alley oops and clean up slop. Make him grab every board and block every shot that comes near him on defense. Play him at the four. Don't get overboard with your expectations (oops) and you will like him.
Which brings me to the flipside: how is he going to co-exist with Amare? AR is most definitely not a three, and he's too skinny to defend as a five, he's going to have to play 90% of his minutes at the four. Is Amare willing to play center? From my vantage you've got a minutes cluster-f***k at the power forward position... great if Amare plays the five or goes down, but how is that going to work if both guys are demanding 30+ minutes at PF?
BTW, Chris Webber came into the League and started 76 games as a rookie, averaging 17.5 ppg, 9.1 rbg, 3.6 apg, and 2.2 spg in 32 mpg and was named rookie of the year. NOT a good benchmark for Anthony Randolph.

So basically limit and stunt his growth is your advice? Take away his touches, don't let him create offensively, no shooting, just your typical clean up, do the dirty work, put back player...right...there were many like you who said the same of David Lee...hence the "shallow water" nickname that Lee was honored with...
For all his flaws, Randolph is still a talented prospect and in his short time in this league, has proven to be more than capable of being effective and productive on the floor in a variety of ways.
Thanks for the advice though.
