It wasn't about the money. Yankees offered 6/138 with a player option for a 7th year at $16 million. Lee agreed to a 5 year $100 million deal with the Phillies.

So awesome to see a player actually take less money to go to a city he enjoys playing in.

Looks like the Yanks are saving for Pujols.

Yeah kind of sick, all 4 of them capable of being #1 starters. Although I'd say Oswalt and Hamels are #2 right now, but STILL

Could there have been a worse offseason for the Yankees? They basically tell Jeter to go f himself. Red Sox get Gonzalez AND Crawford and the best pitcher on the market turns down a extra ~45million from them to sign with Philadelphia.

I think it's clear to me that Cliff Lee just liked Philadelphia and din't want to be the next Kevin Brown in pinstripes.

Absolutely filthy rotation... wonder if their lineup can live up to it though.

At least they won't have to worry or deal with chemistry issues, because each pitcher pitch on their own. They basically carry on with their own business.

Batters, on the other hand, are a bit different. The line up has to be set up well in order to get timely hits and drive in timely runs.

Yeah, I'm sure the pitching will be great, but I have little faith in Howard, Rollins or Ibanez.

With the Yankees and Rangers seemingly going head-to-head to acquire the lefty, Lee approached the Phillies, telling them how much he enjoyed playing for them and asking them if there were any way for him to return, according to the source.

That's awesome by Cliff Lee. Taking much less money to play for a team he really loves playing for.

The Yankees are making the Nets jealous with their wildly disappointing offseason. Hopefully Derek Lowe can be their Troy Murphy! It's the least they could do for letting Lee back into the NL East.

LOL at comparing the yanks to the nets

one team wins more games in a month than the other does in a entire season

i find it ironic he went back to a team that dumped him

regardless its obvious he isnt cut out for the big media market of NY, he just wants to be one of the guys...which he will be in that stacked 4 man PHI rotation
