I guess because Duncan plays the game "the right way" that and the fact taht he is a stoic personality who doesn't say anthing that might rub some peple the wrong way . That and the fact tahat he anchored 4 championship wining teams and made the Spurs into a decade long powerhouse. I really don't know how caasual fans think but i'm just going to guess and say taht they're not really a fan of Duncan's gaeme because he might be "boring " to them, and that's why the y are casual fans and not hardcore. I don't know juts a guess, please dont' be offended by that comment because i absolutely meant no harm t o any casual fans out there.

Duncan is overrated because he is safe. Safe in the sense that he is a big, defensively great, and not polarizing. People aren't afraid to say good things about him because most people aren't going to care or be able to point out specific arguments against them. He deserves nearly all the good praise that he gets I just don't think he deserves his place as the go-to tool people use to cut down other great more popular players of his generation. A lot of people here think they are better than others because they value two way bigs more than most casual fans tend to do. Two way bigs are to the NBA what old movies are to the film snob.

Great post but Duncan is not overrated at all, He's generally rated as the best PF of all time & deservedly so.

Timmy is a great player, one that I can't knock him for being loyal to the Spurs all these years.

BUT, If I had to make an observation here, it wouldn't be of Duncan but about Gregg Popovich. The most underrated coach in NBA history. All of those great Spurs teams owe their success almost entirely to him and the tone of discipline and hard work that he sets.

Its not like Duncan was the guy I was loathing to see match up against my team whenever the Lakers matched up with the Spurs. It was the entire Spurs roster and the adjustments Pops would make throughout the game to keep his team in it that. Coaching genius.

I would take Duncan over Wilt, Wilt had sick statistics but he was one of the last guys I'd want leading my team. Despite his enormous talents wilt was always a complementary superstar whereas Duncan was a true superstar, this was a guy who would lead you through thick and thin and come up big with the game on the line.

Prime Shaq was better than Prime Duncan but as to who had the better career it's debatable...
