Start Meeks - Kobe on the bench - best bench in the league. Problem?

Lakers might as well throw in the towel and go home, Robert Horry said a thing

The Lakers can mix and match their 4 all-stars in so many ways it's insane. You can make 11 combinations with them:

Kobe/Gasol/Nash/Howard

Kobe/Gasol/Howard
Kobe/Gasol/Nash
Kobe/Nash/Howard
Nash/Gasol/Howard

Kobe/Gasol
Kobe/Howard
Kobe/Nash
Nash/Gasol
Nash/Howard
Gasol/Howard

All they need is two of their big 4 to be on the floor at the same time and any unit will be effective, preferably one of the guards with one of the bigs. The only time we should see only bench players is during blowouts.

Horry started 480 games in the 1107 games he played in his NBA career. That's like starting 35-36 games on average every season if you played all 82 of them. That's not screaming bench player all his life. I seriously doubt he was coming off the bench growing up before making the NBA. ;)

i remember ppl said the same thing about the kings and blazers being deeper while we had two superstars and everybody else was considered mediocre at best. that shaq/kobe squad didn't do all that bad. yes mr horry, one can certainly look to the past and see that history repeats itself. there was a 3peat back then and now the ring that awaits us this year.
Warspite:

Prince + filler for Kobe Bryant
To be honest the way Prince has played and with Kobes injury/age/mileage Im not sure I would do that deal either. Still Prince is more important and he wins the head to head battles with Kobe.

you know the miami heat? the guys who won it last year and all? they have a bench that was mediocre, just like the lakers' bench this upcoming year. and the lakers have a better starting 5 than miami.

wait, the heat had a horrible bench last year. this is their roster:

udonis haslem
jjones
norris cole
mike miller
joel anthony
ronny turiaf

do you really think this combo is better than what the lakers have? i think lakers have slightly better.. plus a better starting 5.

Mike Miller had that crap on his shooting hand & Haslem was coming off of an injury & had one good game & faded into obscurity.

and thats why they didn't win

Don't really care about the quote. Big Shot Bob can say whatever he wants and he's never been a big Laker guy (always praised Duncan and Hakeem over Shaq, called Pop his best coach over Phil.) But that was certainly the first time I've ever heard someone say "You pick up history and ...." Weirdo.
Lakers fan since 99.

Whatever your definition of starting 5 is, does not mean better starting unit, or more impacting starting core. With the best player in Bron and not far behind Wade plus Bosh the Heat is second to none. Chalmers can hold his own vs Nash as far as shooting and is a way better defender. Ray Allen could very well start for the Heat and is a killer from 3's.

Don't know what you mean by better starting 5.

“I don’t think the Lakers are going to be in the NBA Finals, despite Howard and Nash. To go deep into the play-offs, you need a strong bench, not just a great starting line-up. I still believe (last year’s runner-up) Oklahoma City Thunder are the favourites in the Western Conference, and (champions) Miami of course have just gotten stronger with Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis.

You pick up history and you’ll see the bench that outplays its opponents usually wins,” Horry told Mail Today

Why argue with him?

The Lakers won't make the Finals anyways, they not going through OKC.
