With all that said, if they can keep it competitive for 3 quarters, before buckling in the 4th, it will show determination, and spirit, along with pure talent. Mavs by 16, but that lead gets built in the 4th.

I won't be mad if they lose at all and until proven otherwise Dallas is obviously tbe better team, but damn. I don't understand people coming out to the woodwork in probably the most enjoyable window of Pistons basketball in 6 years to play negative nancy and all but foreshadow a loss (and by 16 at that).

We all thought San Antonio was an inevitable loss, but they won. It doesn't hurt to be optimistic.

Not really sure where to put this so I'll go here. Wizards released Glen Rice Jr. today. I'd love to take a look at him. We need 3's and maybe SVG got get to him. GiGi, though I love him, hasnt done much of anything and we could cut him lose for glen.

I said it yesterday and it's true again today.... this isn't a game of matchups. Dallas is all about movement. If you don't keep up with them and rotate quickly, they will get uncontested shots all night. We didn't do that in the first quarter and were getting blown out. We started really helping each other defensively, and we got back into it. We need the same type of intensity and trust we showed in the second half or else this game could ugly.

Haha that's the spirit! If the Pistons really blow Dallas out, I'll start a party that'll last till the next game.

C'mon, man! Don't undersell us. If we just use our patented 'Form a F***ing Wall!' defense, we'll win by AT LEAST 45

Honestly I feel like this team can do anything now. Yes Dallas are a very tough team to beat but it doesn't mean that we can't do it. Nowitzki will probably tear Monroe apart from the 3 pt line. Dallas is always a tough team to beat but you never know. If we keep it close, should be a good game.

I thought I had a nice mix of tempered enthusiasm in my post. Pointed out some potential issues they will indeed face. It's hard to Guage anything with this team, as it's hard to overcome a 5-23 record. Don't get me wrong I'm excited about the future. Just trying to be realistic is all. Oh, and in answer to your question, I don't hide, I lay in wait, ready to pounce on anything positive.

Don't know where to put this either, I'm sick of Vince Goodwill from DetNews being all hurt his buddy Dumars got canned. These were his best lines from an NBA.com Podcast today:

"I think they should've kept Smith and talked to him about changing his game then tried trading him"
"Drummond is their best piece but I don't think he's untouchable like everyone else"
"SVG is a decent coach, a pretty good one, and he's helping"
"Making the playoffs would hurt this team because SVG let Monroe get away"
"This was supposed to be the 'blame Dumars season' but it's all his pieces winning games for the team"

--I want to vomit. Does anyone else despise him like i do?

Wow. This is kinda shocking to me... Now all those Twitter fights I got into with him over Josh Smith make a lot of sense

I listened to the podcost as well, I think Goodwill is an idiot and is afraid to say anything hard hitting about NBA players- that being said- I had a different take and I don’t think you paraphrased Goodwill correctly:

1) SVG should’ve altered Smith’s role before downright waiving him. You cannot deny that playing Smith heavy minutes and making him the number 1 option on offense was a disaster. They decided to waive Smith 3 weeks before doing it, yet SVG never explored changing his role. Glad SVG finally wised up but had he minimized Smith early in the season, or would’ve traded him this offseason, we would be playoff bound. That being said, Smith is trash and the only suitable role for him was as a 15-20 minute backup- obviously Goodwill doesn’t have the balls to say that though- its one of the reasons why bloggers> sports “journalists”.

2) I agree that Andre is a piece and not THE piece on a championship.

3) He said SVG was decent but then said a “really good” basketball coach- which is correct

4) I think he’s wrong about Monroe. If Goodwill had any understanding of the CBA- he would already know that Portland and New Orleans will be over the cap with Aldridge/Lopez/Matthew’s and Asik’ capholds. Also, Atlanta will only have 10 million in cap with Millsap/Carroll’s cap hold and there is no way Monroe goes to the Hawks to be a bench player.

5) This core is the product of Joe D, the difference is SVG rid himself of Smith in a way that Joe D never would have- that made all the difference.

To sum it up, Goodwill is an idiot but he’s not 100% wrong about some of his points. How this idiot is employed is beyond me, there are a number of posters on here vastly more knowledgeable

Not sure why you want to vomit when most of its the truth man.

-This team is for sure the product of Dumars.

-The odds of the Pistons resigning Monroe is probably 50/50 . We don't know what teams will make moves and offer him a deal.

-SVG is a pretty good coach, I mean we're shooting a franchise high in 3-pointers(very Orlando Magic-ish).

-Drummond is our best piece, but if the Pelicans offered Davis or if the Clippers offered Griffin, SVG would probably bite.

-SVG should have definitely tried to play Smith as our 6th man to gain better trade offers. Smith is way better than Jonas and could have helped us defensively.

I think he's mad that now, like the rest of us, his info on the team comes from actual NBA sources on Twitter. He has no connection to anyone on the team and I think it's hilarious.

Very excited about the game tonight. As many said, hard to win back to back games, especially on the road against quality teams. But I drank my Koolaid after last night's game - we can't be beat! :-)

First off, Stan said that the way he wanted to change the strategy and that Smith would not be happy his new role.

Most importantly, though, was Josh's influence over the team. The younger players deferred to him. Whether he started or played 10 minutes off the bench, that influence would be there. Of note, look how the guys have responded since, They're talking more, deferring to each other rather than to the highest paid. Jennings is emerging as a leader - that wouldn't have happened with Josh around.

As is true in life, sometimes it's healthier to make a clean break, take your hit and move on with a fresh slate.
