I'am pretty sure this quote came before one about sitting down and talking.

Otherwise it doesn't make any sense. :D

Phil is in charge of every single player & contract on this team. Him going after Rose, Noah & Lee then trading Melo wouldn't make a lick of sense.

But Phil has a method to his senile madness so we'll see what the truth is.

It would make sense if he believes this season is over, the win-now experiment failed and it's time to rebuild.

He's gonna go to a contender & succeed.. The Knicks missed used this guy every year besides 2013 under Woodson.. They asked him to do things they knew he couldn't do.. Lead, mentor and carry them to the promise land.. I don't think he got what he deserved from management the pieces were never there for him to legit compete.. I don't blame Melo ..i blame management & ownership

Pretty much, just tell him its over. Ask him which team(s) he wants to go to and work out a deal.

Melo would seriously have to open up the list of destinations. This Cavs and Clippers only, screw that, it isn't personal, but I want what's best for the Knicks and neither of those teams have the resources to give back anything of value. Not even sure why the Cavs would even rock their boat at all.

The team is losing anyway, we aren't that far from a top 5 pick now, this next stretch of games will certainly pile the losses up even with Melo.

To be honest, this team can rebuild as is, they suck just that bad.

It still wouldn't make sense because you're becoming wishy-washy on your goals.

In less than a season after giving out these contracts and making it known you want to make the playoffs you decide to just blow it up?

Who is he, George Steinbrenner?

I hope he succeeds but that doesn't mean it isn't right for both sides to part ways.

Oh most definitely, if he feels unwanted by the front office he'll dip. Him feeling unwanted by the fans clearly hasn't deterred him but these rumors have ramped up especially the recent Rosen piece when everyone knows he's close with Phil.

Phil gave it a last ditch effort to see if a Melo led team could do anything. Former MVP, former DPOY, second best sophmore ROY runner up, and a great role player in Lee. I think if you put that team around most of the top 10 players, you're gonna get a solid team. It's more talent than most other teams overall.

We're at the halfway point, and it didn't work.

For real. We are no longer at the stage where having Melo makes much sense. I would love nothing more than Melo to leave and contribute on a championship team.

And from Melo's perspective (this was reported at the time through sources), you sign the max deal, lock up your $120 mm, and get traded elsewhere if it doesnt' work out. Was always the contingency plan.

Other than Noah, he really didn't spend long term, and I don't think he brought Noah in primarily for his on court production anyway.

Rose is a one year deal, Lee is a role player signing, and easily movable. The notion that Phil went "all-in" really isn't true.
