This wasn't the report I originally read, but it was the first one that popped up via a google search:
https://www.sportskeeda.com/wwe/from-the-wwe-rumor-mill-io-shirais-debut-in-the-wwe-postponed-due-to-injury

that sucks. She'll be fine though either way. In fact this may give Hojo a chance to not be in Shirai's shadow (for once).

Spoiler:
Yeah, I think they'll have Hojo win - as long as she stays healthy. She has that It factor and the top rope flying elbow finisher. I don't get the deal with her boat wheel entrance (something to do with the voyage?), but she looks good doing it. Only thing is - at her size, how long can she last with a physical style and her signature leaps off the top rope? She looks like a star. Baszler gives them a skillful MMA type - which the WWE doesn't have.

My main take away from round one of this tournament is that I think they should have released the first two rounds at once. There were a lot of girls in this that are very inexperienced and it showed in several of the matches. Most of the dead weight was trimmed off in round one, though, so I expect round two to be a lot better.

I think they really dropped the ball, though, by not having Kay Lee Ray win her first round match. They could have worked a great face/heel match with her and Mercedes Martinez in round two.

Piper Niven is very good. Sane is as good as advertised although she could cut back, just a little, on the in-ring theatrics. Dakota Kai is interesting, I want to see some more of her offense but her kicks look great. LaRae and Deeb also looked impressive.

Oh sh*t, they actually had an interaction between the MMA/WWE Four Horsewoman groups. That match could headline Survivor Series.

Piper Niven vs Toni Storm was fun. Candice LeRae vs Shayna Baszler had some great spots in it (tornado DDT dive + the finish).

Mia Yim vs Shayna Baszler was the best match of the tournament imo.

Baszler is gonna be a big deal.

Kairi Sane has been pretty disappointing. Pirate gimmick is just dumb.

Also, JR is not a good announcer anymore. He's the goat announcer, but it's time for him to give it up. And Lita barely says anything and has little to no emotion in her voice. Those two really bring the vibe of the show down.

Yeah, JR & Lita have been very disappointing and almost unwatchable. I really liked Sane's rd1 match, the rest were nothing special. Storm reminds me a lot of Dean Ambrose and that's annoying. The build for Baszler has been great, I already want to see her get beat up. She's going to be special.

So the obvious build here is to bring Baszler into NXT as the new champion after winning this tournament, then going undefeated until 'Mania and then forfeiting the NXT Title to go one on one with undefeated Asuka for the Raw Women's TItle, right? That's an actual big money match between two believably dominating women. Just build it like they built Brock/Joe.

Kairi's been wrestling with injuries - from what I read. I think she's the best of the group - from what I've seen of her work in Japan. I don't get the pirate gimmick, either, but there's no doubting her passion for the "sport".

Having JR there gives the tournament a "big-game feel" to it. He gives it credibility - even if he isn't at the top of his game anymore.

I think the prospect that showed the most potential for the future was Rhea Rippley. She's not ready for prime time yet, but she looks like a hotter version of Charlotte Flair.

I joked on another board that Ripley was like a female Charlotte.

Lol, ouch. I still wouldn't mind getting pinned by Charlotte.

Per WON, the Mae Young Classic has been a huge success so far. Every single episode has been watched more than this weeks 205 Live. By far the most watched content on the network this week.

Ok, but, whatever. Kairi has been way more than a silly gimmick in this tournament. Anyone who works with her gets mega-heat. The girls I've been most impressed with immediately following their matches have been Blanchard and Belair, by far. That's no coincidence. Even if you're not actively rooting for her, Kairi amplifies heel heat merely by being there. She good.

Having said that, Bianca Belair is my new favorite wrestler. She's awesome.

I haven't been too impressed with Niven. Her pacing needs a lot of work. Agreed on Deeb. I love her strikes.

When they have an obvious story to work with, they're OK. Otherwise, they've been super awkward.

Am I the only one that hasn't been impressed with Baszler? I'm not sold on her at all.
Kobe Bryant was asked who he feels is the toughest opponent to guard in the NBA. Instead of picking OKC's Kevin Durant, Bryant went with Portland’s Brandon Roy.

I think she comes off as someone with skills who can fight and can play a roll, but... at this point, she's shown no charisma.
