I stay away because this site is so painful. It's funny because it's sporadic. Some times it really is unusable.

I [and many others, as well] have tried to raise the issue but ultimately the people actually employed by RealGM dont want to do anything different.

Re: Someone needs to fix this site
Unfortunately the sad reality is there are ad sellers who don't police their ads and many sites use those companies for revenues. Including big websites. I've gotten "windows update alerts" malware installing alert ads on the huffington post. And that is now owned by Verizon.
You need at the very least a backup browser that blocks ads for those sites. On windows something with an adblocker installed. On android/ios I highly recommend Firefox Focus which is fast, blocks everything, and automatically deletes anything that could track you when you close it. Wish they made it for windows!
Does this deprive the website of revenues? Unfortunately yes. But you can't support them by allowing their ads until they support you by only allowing ads that are safe and unobtrusive.

If you aren't using some combo of ublock origin, NoScript, ghostery and privacy badger you're going to have a bad time on a lot of sites. This site works great for me. A couple things still pop up like this stanza.co banner at the bottom but it's easy enough to just block that as well.

The one huge gripe I have with RealGM right now is when I surf through my phone, and I'm listening to a podcast, the second I start browsing the forums, some ad autoplays and shuts down my podcast app. Smh

I cant believe you have the patience to use this site without an ad blocker. I wanted to smash my cpu to bits.

I have no clue what's wrong? On laptop that is. Why would you not use an adblocker nowadays?

Re: Someone needs to fix this site
I have an Adblock but it impacts various other apps and iPhone functions so I disable it most of the time. This is the only site I’ve ever needed it for.

Re: Someone needs to fix this site
If you’re getting those Congratulations iPad User or Amazon User takeovers google the specific ad and how to stop it. I can’t remember exactly what I did but I think it was something like disabling java ads in the browser and I haven’t had that issue since. Actually typing in posts is another story on occasion.

It’s funny you say that because tonight it’s running decently but complete trash on others.

Cannot recommend this enough: On mobile, download Brave browser app. Adblock built in. I had been avoiding the site for months, then someone on here recommended Brave. I have had zero problems since. Zero.

I ended up getting a browser that has a built in ad blocker. No problems with this site since. No search feature is a joke though

I get a lot of warnings that my computer has slowed down because the RealGM browser tab is using too much memory - and on a phone it breaks all the time, or opens ads.
Yeah, there are times when my computer slows, I check, and the task manager tells me that the one RealGM page open is chunking through something like a gig of memory or more all on its own.
I use the Ubuntu operating system, and not Microsoft Windows. It's much more secure.
Still though, at times, RealGM will be taking up too much RAM, and also a ton of CPU power, by itself.
When that happens, I constantly have to keep turning RealGM off.
Which is terrible, because this is the best site out there, by far.
Get it together RealGM.
Have you tried Mint? Kind of like what Ubuntu used to be before they started integrated advertising. Little more lightweight. Have never been more happy with an OS.
Anyway, Linux + Firefox + Ublock Origin + NoScript makes this site just a breeze on PC. Never had a whiff of any issues, except having to enable scripting by jsdeliver for and-1's, and clicking through to view tweets. No CPU/ram hogging at all, even after extended browsing.
On mobile: android + Opera Mini, with no addons whatsoever, has worked pretty well. Small, easily ignorable ads on top and bottom. Get a security alert when first loading the site, which I ignore because I never log in on mobile, so that may not work for everyone.

Basically, this. The internet is not getting better folks. Got to accept it and learn how to protect yourselves.

I've used Mint, along with a bunch of other Linux flavors, and also a ton of Ubuntu derivatives.
I created my own, for 1 distro.
I'm so used to using Google Products. But, I'll have to try that combo, Linux + Firefox + Ublock Origin + NoScript.

Nice. What do you prefer about Ubuntu that's keeping you there?
I've always been wary about the Google ecosystem. I just looked up browser market share and was stunned to see how aggressively Google has cornered the market since the last time I was paying attention. Had no idea Firefox had become such an endangered species:

Re: Someone needs to fix this site
I don't understand this. I have no problems at all. Draft time, it used to be slow but now lately. I use it on my home computer, phone and work computer. Not sure why or if I am doing something right because I am no techy.
