Not mine, but one of the most infamous topic from 10 years ago was "Is Brandon Jennings floor Derrick Rose ?"

I think you're confusing the terms "floor" and "ceiling". Nobody thought Brandon Jennings' floor was Derrick Rose, and you're crazy if you really thought Wiggins' floor was a rich man's DeRozan. Someone with a "floor" of a leage MVP or a "rich man's" 4x all-star wing would be a can't miss prospect and likely go 1st overall in the draft.

I'll have to give more thought to "ever" but of recent ones that are looking less and less likely:

"Zach Collins will be better than John Collins." Still has a chance, but looks very unlikely at this point.

I also was overly hyped about my expectations for the Celtics this past summer. I expected them to be #1 or 2 in the East, and told my brother that Tatum will likely take a huge step forward this year and look Durant-light.

Marvin Bagley will not only be the greatest player from the 2018 draft when all is said and done, but he will also eventually be the best offensive PF in basketball (AKA Dirk-level as an offensive weapon).

You must have had some inside info I never heard.

Jennings did have a lot of hype regarding a high ceiling, but also the question mark of how the experiment of overseas instead of college meant the consensus wasn't a high floor.

My cold take is that your hot take is insane, which makes me lukewarm inside.

Next topic.

Ah, that is usually sooner in the evaluation process than I usually follow. I don't start paying close attention until March Madness, and by that time, that hype seemed to cool down a bit. Especially by draft time when he was traded for Love, which wouldn't happen if that was the belief at that time. When did you make the hot take?

Recent hot take?

The 2018 draft class will go down in NBA history as one of the best of all time. People will compare it to the 2003 draft.

I don't even blame you, it is easy to get caught up in the hype when your team has the #1 pick. In 2007, all I needed to hear was "Oden vs Durant = Bill Russell vs Tracy McGrady."

The Andrew Wiggins/LeBron comparisons were everywhere. I was in prison and remember them very well.

There is absolutely no take hotter than this:

Read on Twitter

This was in October 2013 after LeBron had already won 2 championships, and when Rose literally no longer had knees.

Edit: And, of course, we can't forget this gem. Also from Ric Bucher.

A direct quote from the video, "Don't tell me, even if the Cavs come back and win this series [against GSW in 2016] that LeBron is in the same category with the Magics, and the Michaels, and the Kobes, and Birds. I'm done with all that!"

Hot Takes I still believe in
1. NBA should get rid of the draft/max salaries/age limit.
2. NBA owners should not be allowed to approve/block franchise relations. i.e., another team could move to Chicago tomorrow.
3. Three point line should be moved back.
4. Half court shots should count for four.
5. To encourage players to chuck the long heave at the end of quarters any shot attempted in the last second of the first 3 quarter will not count as fga unless the shot is made. Currently many players hold the ball until after time expires to protect efficiency stats.
6. Moving screen rules should be strictly enforced.
7. Delay of game rules after made baskets should be strictly enforced.
8. Chris Paul was the best player not named Lebron James of his generation.
9. Lebron > MJ by a clear margin. Lebron's prime of 06-18 is already three full seasons larger than MJ's of 87-98 due to his sabbaticals and injuries and it isn't at all clear MJ was even better at his best.
10. If you're starting a franchise and you have to pick a big from the last 4 decades: KG, TD, Hakeem, Robinson should all be picked over Shaq.
11. Carmelo is closer to David West than Dwyane Wade in career value and shouldn't sniff the HOF. His sure HOF status is due to East Coast Bias, PPG fetish, overvalue of college play and ties to a great draft class.
12. Lakers franchise history > Celtics even with less titles.
13. Jerry West is the GOAT figure of basketball careers (player + post playing career.)
14. His trade of Eddie Jones is the only reason the Shaq-Kobe lakers didn't go on a Warriors level run.
15. Big market teams have a small competitive advantage over small market teams. They should. Their success brings more happiness.
16. One of Stockton, Malone and Sloan is grossly overrated all time.
17. Amar'e was barely an above average player due to his piss poor defense.

Allen Iverson would be the best player in the league under its current rules.

I also thought Perry Jones III would be an all-time steal after going 28 in the 2012 draft.

I thought Kareem Rush would be good enough for the Lakers to move on from Kobe and keep Shaq.

Rasheed Wallace if he wanted to be would've been just as good as the Dirk, KG, Duncan trifecta.
