Contrary to popular belief, Florida has about as many fools per capita as anywhere else. It just so happens that they are more truthful in their public disclosure of all petty and minor criminal infractions (state wide).

On the surface it appears that foolish things always happen in Florida, but in reality, foolish things happen everywhere. Florida is just more transparent.

Other states bury their fools out of public view.

Examples NY and illinois.

Honestly these stats are hard to believe. ESPN is one of the most bias pushing platforms so who's to say they aren't cooking the results.

Illinois thinking that Milwaukee is a title favorite is pretty obtuse.

Seeing as how ESPN had nothing to do with the study, I'd say it's pretty unlikely.

And are you saying Illinois thinking the Bucks are favorites is crazier than all of New England going with the Celtics or Indiana choosing the Pacers?

As i'm typing this i am looking at a "State to win the 2019-2020 NBA Championship" bet.

Current odds

California +135
Texas +650
New York +1900
Florida +2900
Any Other -105

Also "City to win the 2019-2020 NBA Championship"

Los Angeles +170
NYC +1900
Any Other -240

Word. I remember seeing the California vs. line at a Ceasers property open at +130. Not a great line, though. Both Utah and Houston are legit threats to come out of the West (apparently early Team USA reports from training are that Donovan Mitchell made the jump and is their best player), and they will be going against a very good team from the East in the Finals. I've never been the biggest fan of Futures in general for NBA. Too much is predicated on potential injury.

Its about odds... Putting 100 on the blazers on the blazers at 50/1? sure... I am not saying that I think the Blazers will win, but putting a 100 on 50-1 odds makes the season a little more fun :)

Honestly Utah at 12-1 I like as well.

Yeah this is basically a popularity contest. I would guess that around 95% of people who are betting are going with their favorite team that has somewhat a chance, and aren't really considering the odds too much.

There is no reason to think that betting on the Blazers and Jazz is necessarily worse than betting on the lakers when you factor in the odds. Think about all the people who made a decent return betting on the raptors last year. It's only natural that the Blazers and Jazz fans would bet on their team. As for the states without a solid playoff level team to root for (or aren't close in location to a such a team), they are simply choosing who they like more between the Lakers, Clippers and Warriors.

The map pretty much checks out when you look at the map below, which is fanbase by state:

Image

There are ten teams that 'won' a state:

Four of them went with the team that is overwhelmingly the fan-favorite that is the only team that plays in that state: Nuggets, Blazers, Jazz and PAcers. Four playoff teams.

Texas and CA simply went with the most popular team within the state.

The states in the Northeast went with Boston, which is the most popular team in that region (some of the states that went with Boston have more Knicks fans, but the Knicks simply have no chance in hell and the second most popular team won there)

The same applies to the philly region.

The two interesting ones to me were NY and Florida. You would think that this logic would apply to Florida and they would have selected the Heat, and New York would have gone with the nets; I'm not surprised that NY didn't go with rivals in Boston and Philly, but you would think that the Nets being a playoff team with decent odds would have taken it.Another slightly surprising pick was Washington choosing the Warriors over the Blazers.

They picked up a lot of bandwagoners when KD jumped over there, also have a lot of CA area people moving up there recently. Probably a fairly close split there now between Warriors fans, Lakers fans, Blazers fans, and vehemently anti-NBA types.

But, WE LOVE him for it!

No need for salt man I just find it funny lol. Portland would be lucky to get the 6th seed with teams like the lakers, rockets, clippers, jazz, warriors and nuggets in the west, on top of that theyve lost most of their depth (curry, harkless, aminu, kanter, turner, leonard) and still have nurkic out till Feb.

No. We still HATE Portland.

It's likely 60-70% Warriors now. The rest are anti-NBA.

It was obvious that the OP would be a clippers or nets fan.
