I honestly have no idea. There are plausible scenarios either way. He needs to shoot more now that Kyrie, Rozier, and Morris are all gone though. You can't be paying a guy $33M per and have him put up less than 9 shots per game. People talk about inefficient volume scorers but players will pass on shots to protect their FG% as well. If you're paying that guy $10M per, it's okay. But if you're paying him Batum/Hayward money, you need them to take the hard shots, especially against good defenses.

Given what he's getting paid, he's got to get touches.

Do people get their noses out of joint like last year? probably.

I expect him to return to a borderline All-Star level.

He put up 16-6-5 per 36 last season, that's not too bad considering the circumstances.

Hope he continues to be the gift that keeps on giving... Hope he continues to get the minutes and shots that Jaylen Brown and/or Marcus Smart think they should get, and continue to cause enough disharmony to keep the Celtics from doing anything.

Really wish he would get back to that, like him as a player, but who knows. Sad if he's unable to do so.

He will be alright, but I still wouldn’t want him on my fantasy team

I'm guessing 18/6/5 on very good to great efficiency.

I expect the points to be in the 14-16 range and for him to put up a career high in APG. With Horford gone, I expect Stevens to put him in a much more prominent facilitating role, with a lot of time on the ball in PNR or handling in transition. Sort of like the way Stevens used Turner next to IT.

In general, I don't like the fit of the current Celtics. You have three guys who are more comfortable doing iso scoring (Walker, Taytum, Brown) and you have a center who is not a facilitator either (Kanter). So basically, Hayward is the de facto the best facilitator on the Celtics and he isn't that great of one either in the grand scheme of things. So I think what will inevitably happen is that Hayward will take a back seat and try to facilitate more and more, but this will essentially lead to him getting ignored in the Celtics systems with everyone trying to get his numbers. This Celtics team really needed a facilitating PG (like in the mold of Nash, Kidd mode) and not a scoring point guard. I just don't see how Hayward will be put in a good position to succeed even if he recovers 100% from his injury.

Big bounce back to 18/5/2 on good efficiency and above average defense. With Kyrie and Horford gone I think all the Celtics will step up. I’m expecting big seasons from Tatum, Hayward and Brown.

And I realize that this is asinine but I think having someone like Rubio as a PG would lead to more team success for the Celtics than Kemba Walker. I am not a Kemba Walker fan as I don't think you can hope to win much with him being the best player on the team as he is low efficiency chucker who doesn't play defense and will get eaten up in the playoffs when things become more physical. Moreover, he will not bring out the best in guys like Taytum/Brown/Hayward the way someone like Rubio would.

wonder if he regrets leaving utah, why did he leave? seems he had it going so good there , then to have a horrendous injury soon as his celtics career started only makes it seem he made the wrong choice again, reminds me of grant hill leaving detroit only to be injured eternally in orlando on a max deal, plus gordons getting tons more scrutiny and critique than he did in utah, not too mention his teammates seem to leave after playing with him , still remember that press conference of Kyrie and him talking about doing big things in Boston, shame it didnt come to fruition.

I think he'll function as some sort of super-role player. Not a go-to guy, but someone who can do a lot of things at an above-average to elite level (in terms of playmaking, switchable defense, and timely scoring). It remains to be seen whether he can recapture his All-Star form, but I highly doubt it. He's still a damn good player in his diminished form, though.

Not saying it’s happening in this thread but it’s funny how a lot of people are using his post injury play as some sort of springboard to bag him, Danny and his contract. The dude was an All Star in the west before he signed with Boston, if he didn’t get injured (freak injury) I would of expected his stat line to read somewhat similar to his last year in Utah.

This I told you so attitude towards Hayward is just garbage.

Just gave his opinion. Kind of thought that was the point of these forums.

No, he told everyone we all have to face the reality of his prediction of something that hasn't happened yet, a la Nostradamus.

Troll above said "more mediocrity for $30M" and I didn't say anything about that because it's an opinion. This guy is saying he knows the reality of the future and everyone has to accept it. Different thing.

I agree with his assertion though. Hayward is cooked bacon. Better chance of Tatum transforming himself into an MVP player this upcoming season than Hayward being relevant again.

He should be more consistent and better overall than he was last year, but I definitely wouldn't anticipate a PG-like trajectory to where he gets back to (and even surpasses) his pre-injury level of play.

The Celtics need to iron out his role a lot more than they did last season IMO.
