What’s the record with George Hill? It seems like when he came over last year we went to another level, and been there since.

Yes.
Giannis is better
Donte is giving you an X factor
Wes and Rolo are giving you physical body up defenders you didn't have

We simply can't gauge anything yet given the large amount of cupcake wins, but I think it's pretty clear we're not worse in the regular season.

Poop that. At this point last year, the Bucks had already lost 7 times including games to the Knicks, Suns, Grizzlies, and Hornets (nearly twice).

The reason we lost most of those games is still on the team. All The Bucks wrote:DavidDunn21 wrote:We simply can't gauge anything yet given the large amount of cupcake wins, but I think it's pretty clear we're not worse in the regular season.

We're shooting unsustainably well right now. We may very well be better in our second Bud year with Donte Rodman on the squad, but I think it's still unclear. George Hill isn't gonna shoot this well all year, for example. What's important is our BEST is starting to look as good as anyone else's best

LOL no they are not, their luck adjusted 3pt stats skew very heavily to them being unlucky so far. Stop making up **** to further your agenda

Re: Are we better than last year?
Yes they are better this year. Wes is starting to fit in better and the bench is really starting to find their niche. Giannis is better and there is speed up and down the roster. Defense is suffocating. Pretty much have to hit above the break 3s at an amazing clip to beat this squad....Even that may not be enough. Bud/Horst owners deserve a lot of credit for reloading this squad so well....Despite what Hollinger thinks about them.

In fact the opponent shooting against the Bucks had been unsustainable in wide open 3s. It's slightly closer to average lately but wide open and open 3 percentages are still higher than average against the Bucks.

Hill was lowkey the most important piece to keep out of him, Malcolm, and Mids.

So far, yes we are. We play better basketball and we can see that the team can improve even more.

Yep, Hill is our second most important player IMO. Just does so many things well and seems like an antidote when Bledsoe is playing dumb.
This regular season team is better, mostly because DDV and Giannis making another jump which I frankly didn't anticipate but doesn't shock me.
In addition Bud seems to have his finger on the pulse of these line ups and our bench energy is another level up from last year.
The real question is this year's playoff team better than last years? Because we were really close to winning it all last year, but this year we seem to have more of 'it' right now. Last year, there was this 'we can't really be this good.....right?', this year you can tell the guys believe it.

I don’t think we should be comparing them to “at this point last year.” What matter is if this team is better than the team that couldn't make it out of the ECF.

In regular season games he has played since he arrived in Milwaukee, we are 55-13 (slightly better than a 66 win pace).
Going to one of David Dunn's observations, Hill may be shooting unsustainably well, but I think Brook Lopez and DDV are shooting a bit low for what I expect to be their norm (Brook on 3s and Donte in terms of driving/finishing). We have plenty of room for additional progression, including some better 3 point D by means of switching.

No kidding. They were looking pretty mediocre as usual. Hill kind of galvanized everything. The ultimate glue guy who also happened to be the exact type of glue guy the team needed. That 7-7 stretch with a bunch of embarrassing losses must not be forgotten, because it shows the value of a certain type of player.
This team is better for two basic reasons.
One is defensive pursuit, tenacity, and quickness. That was the team's downfall against the Raptors. I think it's reductionism to say Van Vleet beat them. The larger truth is that small-ball beat them, and someone was inevitably going to hit a bunch of 3's against them because Mirotic, Khris, Ersan, and Brogdon were all too slow. Lopez too, although having to plant him in the paint has more of an indirect effect on the perimeter defense due to being unable to switch.
The other reason is kind of related, but it's about having more guys who can perfectly complement a superstar and do a little bit of everything to help win, all without slowing the ball down or isolating against their defender... like... ever. Last year, it was just Hill and maybe Ersan. This year, they added Matthews and DDV. Bledsoe, Lopez, Middleton, and Brogdon are all good players, and are actually better than any of the glue guys if you need a guy to put up borderline all-star numbers on a 43-win team, but the Bucks don't need that. They just need solid all-around play without the "______ giveth and ______ taketh away" stuff.

Bucks offense struggled more than its defense against Toronto.
Season ORtg was 113.8 against TOR it was 107.2
DRg for the season was 105.2 and against TOR it was 108.2

Same problem though. Toronto's pursuit was better and they played with more energy. Even when the Bucks were up 15 in the 3rd quarter of game 6, you could tell Toronto was going to win eventually. They ran circles around the Bucks on both ends of the court.
Also, the Bucks' ball movement was often bad, especially when Hill was on the bench. That speaks too having too many guys who stand around, and not enough guys like DDV and Matthews who know they have to work hard off the ball - even if the ball doesn't find them on that particular possession.
ETA: Also, you would expect the difference in your oRTG to be much more dramatic than the difference in your dRTG against a great defensive team like Toronto was by the time the playoffs came around. I don't think that reveals anything.

So you think career 38% 3 point shooter George Hill will continue to shoot 52 from deep?
Career 36% shooter Sterling Brown will stay at 39?
You think Khris won't have a bad stretch when that's what he's always done going back to Kidd?
Now will Ersan and Brook shoot better at some point? Probably. But I really am unclear as to what you're arguing.
Btw, we still aren't getting champion-level respect from the refs, and that continued last night. Kyrie is Kyrie, but he was prophetic about the level of calls we got against Boston vs. against Toronto last year.
