That is a textbook example to point out that on-off numbers don't necessarily and directly show how good a player is performing.
If the Mavs (and I think it is pretty obvious that they do) match up a relatively bad lineup (e.g. their starters with Doncic and Porzingis) in comparison to the opposing lineup (the 'top-heavy' starters of most teams), said lineup produces kind of bad numbers, but the rest of their lineups are arranged in a way to expose their opposing lineups (more than their 'bad' starters give up).

It's actually just an example of a bad and inaccurate use of on/off numbers, and this isn't personal to the poster, but people need to put a bit more effort into quoting stats.
