I didn't think he was part of the future last year, and lo and behold here he is again. they're probably going to sign him to a 4 year deal

Rivers is losing minutes, down to 8 last night. Just keep Rivers out completely and let IQ get all those minutes.

I wouldn't even be mad if they gave frank rivers' minutes and frank's not that good either but he can at least hit a shot on occasion and play some solid defense. rivers gives you so many minutes of nothing on either end with like a once in every 10 games breakout performance where he looks like steph curry. I think I'd rather live with the consistency of frank as pedestrian as that is

Well remember how bad we looked without him last year. With that it was obvious he'd be back at least until we addressed PG. The issue is we've addressed it with Quickley, so he needs to sit more.

The Knicks won't be in position to draft Cade or Suggs, and only high draft picks are projected starters.

This year's free agency class is extremely weak at PG.

So yes the Knicks will sign Payton to an extension and reward him with a multi-year deal.

For me it's a given at this point.

We have the cap right now. They can renegotiate and extend him. I am expecting 4/60

This is not some analytics breakthrough.

Payton was on Pace to shoot 4-15 today against the Heat, but you say that's what the Knicks needed to win today?

Payton generally takes less shots when he sees that his shot isn't falling early on, which is commendable.

To keep throwing up shots on a bad day like today(most days/nights for Payton) to reach 15 FGA because he thinks it gives the Knicks an 87.5% chance of winning is borderline superstitious.

Taking a break. For a while. 3 minutes a night to Payton makes me vote with my viewership. This completely sucks.

Aren't the Pelicans overloaded with point guards?

Yep. Especially ones who can’t shoot

Payton has picked up his game some the last few games.

Thibs has the same obsession with Rivers who is the king of dribbling through his legs 5 times while shaking and baking in one spot before passing the ball. FOH with him. Play Frank.

it's such a major blindspot for thibs. i get why he plays like others have said: payton is a vet, he doesn't make a ton of mistakes and he has the "look" of a traditional PG with the reputation of being a good defender.

meanwhile, he bricks wide open shots, gets to the rim but is afraid of contact so he misses layups, and even has an inconsistent motor. sometimes he'll attack and then randomly just dribble in place. i don't even think it's physical fatigue, i think it's mental fatigue. his bright spots are few and far between.

and then we have quickley who yes as a rookie clearly needs to learn, but he's a dynamic offensive player who spreads the floor and does make good reads. and it's not about wanting quickley to play 30+ min every night, but more giving him a longer leash. giving him the hook so soon does not instill confidence. it's really maddening.

Weirdly... I trust this FO somewhat. Before the season everybody was expecting Payton and Randle to get major minutes, in order to increase their value up to the deadline. Randle certainly changed the story, but if Payton can be helped to a few more 20pt games, there'll be options.

He'd probably agree to a trade, if it's a team gearing for a deep playoff run. Seeing how the Knicks are clawing to barely get in and the fanbase disliking every minute he's out there.
formidable.
