To get KAT (or tatum or really any top flight franchise player), we would HAVE to include our top 5 pick, no question about it

Look at the lakers a couple of years ago, they wanted a high end player, and id put KAT or tatum in the same catagory of AD, the lakers had to give up a top 5 pick, a recent sucessful #2 overall pick (ingram), a somewhat disappointing\bust #2 overall pick (lonzo), a good role player (hart) and 2 other future first round picks

And that was considered light return for the pelicans

To think we would get KAT or tatum without giving up our top 5 would be REALLY unrealistic

reread what I wrote. I said I would throw all our picks for Kat. I know you arent going to get someone of his caliber for a pick8-11, but we now have the assets to go after someone the moment they become disgruntled.

Kat isn't a winning player. We could give a bunch of assets for him and it really wouldn't help us win anything.

I disagree. He led that Kentucky team to a 38-1 record. He has been surrounded by garage in MIN which has made him look not like a winner. Put him next to JI and we would easily be a top 3 defensive team.

He has the tools and skills no doubt. Talent? For sure. But what about the winning/killer mentality to will our team to win? That is what I question.

But you make a good point. Before the trades all our assets were considered "meh" but now we do have a lot of desirable assets that could be thrown at a disgruntled star. Question is targeting the right star.

Sengun. Maybe Giddey. Otherwise I'd prefer to move down and get some value if anyone is determined to move up. I just don't see much that separates most of what is mocked from 6-10 from what is mocked 11-20 and I would just take what falls.

Sengun is an outlier. I get that he doesn't fit with our roster, but that's not his fault. He knows how to play basketball and he is really young. I think he is going to figure out how to make his game work in the NBA. If you miss on him, I think you end up looking pretty stupid. I'm kind of doubting that he will be there with the Chicago pick unless it lands 7 or 8. He has been rising up the mocks recently and there is plenty of time for that to continue.

Giddey is a project. He has good feel, but he needs to work on his body and his shot. He is an upside pick though, which is what I would be focusing on. If he irons out his shot and adds some functional mass, then I think you are looking at a guy that could be one of the best players to come out of this draft.

There are just a lot of guys I'd feel much better about picking in the middle of the first round than in the lottery of this draft. For example, I'd rather move back and snag Garuba than to use a mid-lottery pick on Barnes. If you can pick up a late-first in exchange for moving back, I'd do that. NY has a couple picks. Houston has some late firsts. Perhaps they will have some roster congestion and prefer to consolidate? Someone is going to fall. Wagner, Bouknight, Johnson, Springer, etc... I don't know who, but someone is going to fall to a point where they become good value.

People are far too worried about fit with our picks. There are a lot of really young guys in this draft and we don't have to rush things. We can take our time with whoever we pick. We had AG for seven years and he is still just 25. It doesn't really matter that whoever we take is ready to contribute next year. What matters is that they have some upside and they improve. If we add a late first, we could take someone like Duarte who can give you quality minutes from the start. We need to cast a wide net and look for upside though. We don't really have much of a core. We need to take advantage of our roster space to mine for talent.

What was given up for Harden?
For CP?
Jimmy Butler?
A lot less than what we can offer without the top 5.

Harden - victor oladipo, Dante Exum 4 first round picks and 4 first round pick swaps.........Better than what we would give up minus top5 this year

Chris Paul - not sure which time, but if for instance the trade to the rockets, Lou williams, Pat beverly, Montrezl Harrell, 3 other players and a 1st round pick - sounds like more than we can give up, and this was when he was 32 years old, not 23-25

Paul George - SGA, Danilo Gallinari and 5 first round picks and 2 pick swaps...........

Which one of those was less than Bulls picks+RJ Hampton\Bamba and other filler?

Good post. I’m really high on Sengun personally as well. I could see him being better than WCJ and Bamba both in relatively short order. What he’s accomplished at that age has pretty much only ever been done by Luka Doncic. It’s extremely rare air for a guy that young to be that statistically dominant. Could he be a souped up Sabonis? Maybe.

It also would force the Magic to move on from at least one of WCJ/Bamba and would reset the contract clock at the center position since both guys are eligible for extensions this summer.

I’m not super in love with the idea of trading 8 for 21/23 or 22/24 which is where the Knicks and Rockets are roughly at though. Too much uncertainty on who would be there for me to want to go that far back.

I would, however, be interested in moving back from 8/9 into the teens and picking up a future lightly protected first that would be likely to convey in 2022.

Those picks will be mid/late 1sts.
I'm not saying go after Harden level, just that we do have enough to chase someone very good.

2 bulls picks,
our 2021 2nd round pick
Our 2022 pick
our 2024 pick
Den pick
That is 5 1sts, and a great 2nd.
Swap picks? sure, doesn't mean much.

without losing our 2021 pick.

Bamba & J.I. 2 top five picks can go too.
add in Ross, we can take back nearly 10M more than we send out.

You make a good point regarding Sengun. Drafting him would hopefully force our FO to move on with one of WCJ/Bamba cuz each of them needs starter minutes. And it would solve the extensiom question as well. Wagner can hold that backup/3rd PF-C slot until Sengun is ready for the big minutes cuz we all now its the big men that usually takes longer to develop.

Out of curiosity, how many Euroleague bigs that depend mostly on their physicality found even B-level stardom in the league? ( no dirk and porzingis are not physical )

That would be a worse trade then Chicago just made with us. I don't think this FO is going to send out a bunch of assets for one player.

Hunter Sallis (Gonzaga) and Moussa Diabate (Michigan).

You mean a late teens pick in 2022, right? Cause that is where the Chicago pick is going to end up.

We have a 73.8% chance of getting the Bulls pick this season. Unless they pass the Pelicans, then it'll be like 79.8%.

Moody, Mitchell or Sengun for me in that range. Wagner is intriguing as well.

We also had a ~90% chance to receive the Lakers pick from the Dwight trade. We didn't get it. With this franchise it is best to assume the worst and one day something good will happen and shock us all.

He means that Chicago is going to hit the lottery this year and we’ll get their pick next year when they’re in the playoffs.

Good question.

Both Gasol brothers had great NBA careers. Within Pau a 6x all-star and 4x all-NBA and Marc a 3x all-star and 2x all-NBA.

Sabonis is a 2x all-star for the Pacers, although he went the American college route.

Nurkic and Valanciunas have had long, productive careers as first round picks.

Kanter and Biyombo have been busts relative to their draft positions, but they’ve both still carved out 10 year NBA careers already.

The difference between Sengun and all of these other guys is how much better he’s been than literally every single one of them at such a young age. He doesn’t even turn 19 for another 2.5 months! He’ll play his entire rookie season in the NBA at age 19.

An 18 year old kid against good Turkish competition averaging 19 PTS 9 REB 2.5 AST and shooting 65% from the floor and 80% from the line is just so outrageous and unprecedented.

I really love the potential fit with a healthy defender in Isaac.

Gortat, Capela, Okur, etc... there really is no shortage. It isn't very meaningful to list them though as the success or failure of one or another really doesn't have anything to do with Sengun. It's a loaded question anyway, or at least the implication is. Physicality isn't his defining characteristic. He is highly skilled. He isn't a perfect prospect. There are questions about how his game will translate to the NBA, but nobody has ever done what he has done. He would be shredding NCAA division 1 basketball right now.

Hansbrough is the name you invoke if you want to discredit Sengun. There are some similarities, but Sengun is already better. Hansbrough never could block a shot or make a pass.

An 18 year old kid against good Turkish competition averaging 19 PTS 9 REB 2.5 AST and shooting 65% from the floor and 80% from the line is just so outrageous and unprecedented.

I really love the potential fit with a healthy defender in Isaac.

Oh yeah Gasol bros... Gortat as well but I was only thinking about this new era of 3pt chuckers. And its only Jokic that comes to mind. JV is serviceable but not a B level star for me.

Vuc and Sabonis cannot be considered because both went through the NCAA route.
