It's not an easy decision to make. Not as easy as it first feels like.

Curry obviously has a huge shooting advantage. The guy is lights out from anywhere on the court and an constant off ball thread in a motion offense.

Magic in today's positionless basketball also has an advantage on both offense and defense. I say Magic is probably the easier one to build around as he does not rely on a certain system like Curry does (a Draymond type point forward who sets solid screen and distribute from high post, a Klay type shooter and man defender who often covers for Curry's assignments).

I'll go with Magic.

Have you seen Magic play before? Couldn't shoot?

He had a set 15fter that was money, shot 85% from the line for his career and shot 35% from 3 his last 4 seasons when he started to work on that shot more including a 38% season from long

Magic's shooting is perfectly fine for a small ball center.

Magic can play/guard a bunch of positions. That's the reality of the new NBA, even more so than 3s, a bunch of athletic wings playing all different positions from 1 through 5.

if you didn't experience Magic, I think it'd be really hard to understand why he should be taken over Curry. But I'm picking him over any other PG ever.

Harrison Barnes + Magic
Harrison Barnes + Steph

Kemba Walker + Magic
Kemba Walker + Steph

d seems like the worst combination and it seems like a lot of d combinations out there.

I'm going Magic for the possibility of having better defenses.

Both choices are understandable, but I'd take Magic even without taking into account injuries.

I'd pick Magic in this comparison but wasn't Magic criticized for his jumpshot for a large portion of his career?

We're talking about peak Magic here though and after 1983 Magic was already a solid outside shooter. By 1986, Magic was elite shooter. He didn't shoot a lot of threes but he had outstanding shooting touch.

Magic shot better than a lot of modern perimeter stars. He's better shooter than LeBron for example.

They're literally two of the best at doing that in the history of the game. You might as well have said Curry because he's a better free throw shooter.

how is this not Steph by a mile? obviously in a vacuum Magic is better but Steph is way more versatile and fits way more lineups/schemes than Magic.

gotta go Steph because it's just a much better chance he'll fit better next to whoever you throw out next to him.

Curry.

I value scoring more than playmaking. Steph can be the primary scorer on a championship team.

What kind of roster does Curry not fit with that you can't adjust pretty easily? Both have basically the same defensive issue, magic doesn't have the footspeed for some elite guards and Curry doesn't have the size for bigger ones. Magic's a bit better there overall. Magic by contrast is FAR more dependent on having the ball on his hand while Curry can lead a team on and off ball. Curry might be the most easy to fit offensive player ever to any team.

Case and point, I love the idea of Magic and Lebron on a team together, but you can't tell Curry does fit better with either of them.

Magic was incredible, and he’d be incredible in any era…

…but to say he had no weaknesses is flat out ridiculous.

He wasn’t a great shooter, he wasn’t a truly great scorer (maybe the worst scorer next to Russell of players who are routinely placed in the top 10), and he wasn’t a great defender, even though he had the tools to be one.

Magic was GREAT…but no weaknesses? C’mon, man.

Magic not close for me. At his peak could score 20ppg or more not to mention this space and pace now.

If Ben could tee up 3ball shooters Magic would be far and away superior.

Magic with 4 shooters, no thanks. Magic is more versatile then Curry.

PG/SF/PF don’t matter it’s Magic. And as “Point Guards” go I’m picking him over Curry anyway.

His career average is 19.5/7.2/11.2/1.9 52 FG%. LOL

Can’t send him to the line either. Matchup nightmare

i'm leaning towards magic mostly because roster aside, a dumb coach could botch using Curry if they didn't understand how good off ball he is and how selfless he is. Any idiot coach can run a heliocentric offense around magic, it's easy. Curry IS the more versatile guy here. Throw in some defensive hypothetical concerns with undersized rosters...

Curry is not more versatile then Magic lmao. What is this?

Magic today with this type of space and pace and inflation on offense. He’d be the best offensive player in the game that I have no doubt.

Curry. He has the play making capabilities as magic but much better shooter and scorer.

Curry is the better pg and shooter. Magic is the better player. If they both were in the same draft, I would draft Magic first. But if I had them both on the same team, I would play Curry at pg and put Magic back at pf.
