It's not often I thank a billionaire but thankfully Larry Tanenbaum was in charge.

This whole article is wild and seems like Edward Rogers has a lot of hurt ego. This reads a lot like Larry T is the source on this story or those loyal to him.

Having said that - I fear for what happens when Larry T is gone. We can't go back to the dark ages and this reeks of Maple Leafs corporate decisions in the 00s.

Who is this guy exactly besides the son of Ted I assume and one of many members of the Rogers board? Does being a board member of Rogers auto put him on MLSE's board?

I would imagine he owns a boatload of shares in the company.

From a fans perspective knowing there's no cap on how much you can pay management?

This is a billionaire complaining abt paying someone who brought a championship here a couple more million lol Doesn't make rogers looks good

The guy is a friend of Donald Trump...money is probably not the main motivator for a guy like this. He may not have liked the idea of a black executive moving up in the company.

so it explains why he didn't want to keep Ujiri. :nonono: Nobody in their right mind would want to rid of a Masai. Nobody

Even prior to this, there were reports that former Bell President Cope and Larry T were consistently at odds with Rogers regarding investment in the Raptors.

Rogers isn't that interested in the Raptors. They're interested in their huge hockey investment and the Jays. Everything else is an afterthought so it's not a surprise that they wanted to cheap out on the Raps.

Feschuk on TSN1050 this morning was suggesting that Masai would have a problem with Ed's politics. And maybe vice versa. If Ed is conservative, he probably didn't like the way Masai brushed off Doug Ford at the parade.

It was really unfortunate that basketball guy George Cope retired from Bell recently. He would have been an important ally who could have helped put a stop to this nonsense. No wonder Masai was insecure. His position was 100% dependent on the 75-year-old Larry Tanenbaum. Fortunately as governor, Larry had sole authority under the NBA consistitution to bring back Masai, regardless of Bell or Rogers.

Also from the article (according to Feschuk), the deal is for 15 mill/yr, plus a share in any increase in value of MLSE. An opposing franchise (we can only assume the Wizards) offered a 3% stake.

They definitely aren't interested in the Jays. I doubt they care about the Leafs either. They just want to milk these franchises while investing the bare minimum.

If Masai left because of this drama (who could blame him?), we would have all been calling for his head without knowing that it was **** Rogers that drove him out.

I hope an employee from within the organization leaks a Sarver-like story about Ed being a racist or a sexual predator (I'd be shocked if he wasn't both). Maybe frame it as a systemic issue so the company is forced to sell the team.
