Butler is more of a table setter than scorer who misses about 1/3 of the season. Averaged 21 and 20 ppg the last two years as the #1 on the Heat with a ton of 3 point shooter around him for reference.

Give that team Thibs as the head coach and I would watch every game they play.

That is essentially just a better version of the Heat, so if you give them the Heat bench. I would say they're probably one of the favorites to come out of the East. They would need Jimmy to go off in the playoffs to make it to the Finals. But ya that would probably be a top 3 team in the East (Nets and healthy Bucks).

Thats what I'm saying. It'd be impossible to score on this team, and they'd turn you over every fourth possession. They are way better than a play-in team.

Assume an average bench.

Does this team compete for a championship, even with their offensive limitations?

Is this just a better heat team? Huge upgrade at pf and slightly worse at guard. Probably a pesky second round team.

The Heat are arguably the best team in the east right now. An upgraded version of them is a monster.

Ya a big argument to be number one in the East I have them 3 at best behind both the Nets and the Bucks who are just getting healthy with Donte and Lopez still out.

Wouldn't replacing either Green or Caruso with a better shooter who is also good on defense make more sense?

Jaren Jackson/Myles Turner instead of Green?
Mikal Bridges instead of Caruso and make Ball the PG?

You would still need 2-3 good shooters on the bench, as 2-3 of your starters are non shooters.

Maybe. But this is the team I was interested in.

Ya just look at Miami compared to that lineup

Bam - Bam
PJ - Green
Jimmy - Jimmy
Duncan - Lonzo
Lowry - Caruso

Green is a big upgrade of PJ. Ya Green isn't the same shooter as PJ, but PJ is making one 3 per game. The extra ball movement Green brings cancels that out and he's the better defender

Duncan vs Lonzo: Lonzo is the far superior defender. He is also the far superior passer. Then when it comes to 3pt shooting so far this year. Duncan has made 58 3s at a 33% clip. Lonzo has made 56 3s at a 43% clip

Lowry vs Caruso: Caruso doesnt run the point as well, but the improvement of Green and Lonzo in that department more than makes up for that. Lowry is shooting 30% from 3 while Caruso is shooting 31%. So not a big drop-off there. And the per 100 scoring is only a 4pt difference.

So that clearly is a better starting lineup. Miami has a good defensive lineup already, but that one is even an upgrade on that. The ball movement gets better while not having a big takeaway in 3pt shooting. Give them the Miami bench. Miami is currently sitting at 2nd place in the East at the moment. I think the Bucks healthy surpass them. But ya they're chilling at 3rd in the East. Who in the East over takes them? Bulls arent the same without Ball and Caruso. Then you got Wizards and Hornets. That is at minimum the 3rd best team in the East.

So just the Miami Heat but you're swapping out Lowry, Tucker, Herro, and Robinson for Draymond, Ball and Caruso?

Either way they're a title contender.

Jimmy Butler takes teams to the playoffs

Jimmy Butler and Bam already works

Lonzo can do the same role Kyle Lowry does right now for Miami

Caruso already works perfectly with Lonzo

Alex Caruso won't be stretching the floor much but he'll be cutting and setting screens which will help Jimmy and Bam go to work.

Draymond is the odd man out but he has such a high BBIQ he'd probably make it work with a ton of screen setting and off ball movement and facilitation.

This team is a solid second round exit but they're the kind of team no one wants to face cause they'll put you to work every single possession.

Argubly.

I guess you could argue the there 6 teams that could argue they are the best in the east. Nets, bulls with better records, wizards with same heat, bucks who were injured but now healthy and hawks because some people like the Hawks for some reason. I have heat 3 when all said and done, but very easily handled in the second round.

I’ll give Caruso is having a great start to the year, but it’s what a quarter of the way through the season? Pump the breaks.

Statistically both Curry & Harden have better DWS & DRTG than him so far. He’s above average but elite? Nah he’s more Beverley than Tony Allen out there.

Lonzo simply has no business being mentioned in the “elite” category.

Plus how is Chicago not even in the top 10 in team defensive rating with two “elite” defenders in their rotation? What am I missing here?

Bulls are 5th in defensive rating.

I was looking at adjusted drtg below which had them at 11 before they adjusted for their beat down of the hapless magic last night. Has them at 8 now.

Never said they weren’t good, just not all defensive or “elite”. Wreaking havoc is fine, but if this is “all-defensive” as the title implies, I do not have them there.

All defensive is 1 of 1 for that position.

Caruso could potentially if he keeps it up all year but even then you need to consider Butler a SF, which he’s not, and Jrue needs to continue to play below his potential. Let alone other players who are in the convo like Jaylen Brown, Smart, Thybulle, Dort, Brooks, OG or Bledsoe.

Is the team coached by Thibs? 1 seed and then early playoff exit due to exhaustion.

Ranked 5th in unadjusted. The Bulls have been better than top 10 all season until two bad losses to the Pacers and Rockets. Their defense is much better than you give them credit for. And Caruso and Lonzo Ball are key contributors to that defense.
