Re: Coronavirus/COVID-19, Thread 4 (Read the OP)
JERUSALEM, Jan 4 (Reuters) - A fourth dose (or second booster) of COVID-19 vaccine boosts neutralizing antibodies five-fold a week after the shot is administered, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said on Tuesday, citing preliminary findings of an Israeli study.
"A week into the fourth dose, we know to a higher degree of certainty that the fourth Pfizer dose is safe," Bennett said at Sheba Medical Center, which is giving second booster shots in a trial among its staff amid a nationwide surge in Omicron variant infections (a 10 fold increase in Omicron infections associated with low titers of neutralizing antibodies versus the Omicron variant - in people whose level of neutralizing antibodies versus all Covid variants had dropped greatly since receiving a third shot or first booster greater than four to five months ago).
"The second piece of news: We know that a week after administration of a fourth dose, we see a five-fold increase in the number of antibodies in the vaccinated person. ***This most likely means a significant increase in protection against infection and ... hospitalisation and (severe) symptoms.”
Launched on 12/27/2021, the Sheba trial administered a fourth dose of the Pfizer (PFE.N) and BioNTech (22UAy.DE) vaccine to 150 medical personnel.
Israel has played a leading role in studying the effects of COVID-19 vaccines, as the fastest country to roll out two-dose inoculations to a wide population a year ago and one of the first to give third shots as boosters in the summer of 2021.
It is now administering fourth doses to all people over 60, health workers and immunocompromised patients.
***A separate group is set to receive Moderna's vaccine for their fourth dose this week with the expectation (based on a very recent UK analysis demonstrating that a third dose of Moderna results in more sustained protection versus Omicron infection than a third dose of Pfizer 10 weeks after either booster, and on a mix and match study evaluating the neutralizing antibody response after a third dose of Moderna and Pfizer versus the Delta variant published by the NIH in early 12/2021) that the neutralizing antibody response versus Omicron will be greater and longer lasting (after a Moderna fourth dose compared with a Pfizer fourth dose).

I come in peace. Just wanted to drop some flu statistics from the CDC for 2018-1019. Folks can compare & contrast how they please. Almost 29 million cases. So when you see fear mongering headlines about Omicron cases over 1 million, just know that even though that isn't good, it's also not some insane number. Omicron hasn't been nearly as deadly as original variant or delta.
29 million and that's without people lining up in droves just to find out if they're positive. 29 million people who were really sick so they went in to the Dr's.

As far as the NBA goes there have been way fewer players going into the Protocol this week. A couple weeks ago there were so many each day it was hard to keep up, and now there are more players coming out than going in. So it looks like we're headed in the right direction on the basketball front.

Flu statistics from the same year showed 16k deaths in the US. In roughly 2 years of coronavirus in the US we've had roughly 850k deaths. Listing the numbers isn't "fear mongering", it's... listing the numbers. It's a relief that more and more evidence is showing that omicron is less severe but it's spreading way faster so still should be taken seriously, much as covid should have universally been taken seriously from the very beginning.

Re: Coronavirus/COVID-19, Thread 4 (Read the OP)
Just want to let y'all know I'm a week out from my positive test.
Symptomatic COVID, no booster. I was supposed to go get my booster the day I tested positive.
To those who missed it, it was as bad, or worse than the worst bronchitis I've ever had. The 3 day peak of coughing was brutal..needed an Albuterol inhaler.
Day 7, all that remains is some mild congestion, but a consistent dry cough, sort of constant tickle. Occasional cough. Sometimes triggers about 1-3 coughing episodes that last 2-4 seconds per day.
I'm 29, 168lbs, an active runner, run 1 5k weekly. I'm healthy and this knocked me on my ass.
Don't **** around. You will probably be fine..but based on volume alone, SOMEONE in God's handful of people won't be. If you can, try to contribute towards minimizing the size of that hand.
Be safe guys

Also (to ddb), you do realise those influenza numbers are for a whole flu season don't you? Which means at the current rate the US COVID cases could surpass that total in less than a month.

Re: Coronavirus/COVID-19, Thread 4 (Read the OP)
It's a freaking brushfire here in the Mid-Atlantic. I caught it from one of my students before the holiday break. That supremely sucked. I was forced to postpone my trip to Mexico that I scheduled for just after Christmas. At first, I thought it was the flu because I forgot to get my flu shot this year. Fortunately, my case was mild. Just had a persistent cough and a bit of congestion. Never rose to losing my taste or fever or major fatigue. After quarantine was over, I did take a short trip to AC for a couple of days but I'm coming back to an impossible situation in the public school system. Teachers understandably are concerned about safety. And the ones who are teachers don't have adequate coverage for their own kids who are at home. But obviously, students don't perform well or in some cases at all with remote learning. There is a nationwide teacher shortage right now. There are no great solutions to our current situation for students.
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

This is your original post. I put it back up.
It's 27+ mins long. So, we don't have time to review it, on the Celtics Forum.
To be fair, I did ask you what it was about, yesterday.
I didn't get an answer, for almost 24 hrs, so I deleted it.
You say it's not misinformation. OK.
But, What is it about?
