Which current NBA player best embodies Marc Gasol?

Poeltl and Sabonis have the best chance IMO.

Jokic I cannot see ever transitioning to an elite 3 and D center.

Jakob doesn’t have the shooting ability and he’s a terrible Free throw shooter. Sabonis gets hunted on defense on every play. Neither are good comparisons and I don’t really see anyone close in terms of defensively ability, passing and shooting.

Gasol wasn’t much of a shooter either at that age.

Sabonis isn’t that bad defensively. He gets hunted more due to the fact he plays out of position to fit in Turnee

Just look at Jakob’s free throw shooting and you’ll know that he will never develop an outside whatsoever. The defense is elite though.

Even when Sabonis plays center he gets hunted on switches or pick and roll and it’s the reason they have to play turner next him on defense.

Vuc should not be on the list and isn't a good all around defender imo. Mix a little bit of rudy's skill and Jokic's skill but not all of it and you come close.

Steven Adams is Marc Gasol, why do you think the Grizzlies are winning so much? Morant? Bane?Brooks? It's Adams that's anchoring that defense and offense with his High IQ play on both ends which usually doesn't show up on the Boxscore.

Yakub Purrtl is a stretch. Outside of being a European 7 footer, it's just a stretch.

Now, Purrtl's passing and playmaking though...it certainly is something to admire.

I have zero doubt that if we never traded Poeltl, Nurse would have him shooting 3s by now.

Pops is a great coach in other ways but he has a stated distaste for the 3pt shot, and clearly doesn't challenge non-shooters to develop it. DeRozan's 3 years there were 3 of the 5 worst in his career from deep, by both % and volume.

I dont think he's anything like Gasol....but i would LOVE LOVE LOVE if we could somehow get Poetl back. I think he would be the perfect for us. Wouldn't play him in crunch time (last 5 minutes of a close game) but i honestly think he would compliment our team perfectly. Maybe i'm just biased because i was a huge bench mob fan. His big to big action with siakam was incredible.

Jokic is like Super Gasol. Not as good a defender, but improving on that end as well.

If elite defence is not part of his make-up, then it's not a Gasol comparison IMO

No one has his commination of defence and playmaking right now. Jokic is obviously a way better playmaker and scorer, but Marc was a better defender.

Gasol was a rare breed. Tremendous interior defender and passer. He could score in the post and he also developed a 3 so teams had to guard him on the perimeter. And his basketball IQ was off the charts. Im not sure there's a modern comparable right now.

It's funny cuz the closest thing to Gasol apart from height and position was Lowry It was so sick having them both. Bruh that bubble team just had some slumps at the wrong time, we were legit contenders without Kawhi that year.

Draymond Green is the closest. There are obviously differences, but the most important thing they share in common is they quarterback defense and offence, making decisions that elevate everybody's play. They're both cerebral and ground-bound.

Draymond is what came to mind for me. He's a defensive connector and orchestrator. Also a great passer.
