I’ve never seen so much salt over this award. I guess people spend months working up a victim complex over Jokic being robbed (the advanced stats!), but once it became clear that actually he’d win they had to take that energy elsewhere.

can someone present an objective reasoning for smart over any of rudy gobert, draymond green or giannis? not thrilled with this one. he's had a great season for sure and is a great defensive guard perhaps top 3 in the nba this year. but dpoy? not over those big guys, if the criteria is 'most impactful defender in the nba' this season.

Marcus Smart is a really solid defender, but he's not top 3 in my DPOY award and I think he's not the best defender on the Celtics either. He's someone that gets the bump because the Celtics have the best defense in the NBA.

The key stat why he can't be DPOY to me.
Defensive FG% allowed on 2 point shots 54.9%
Defensive FG% allowed on 3 point shots 33.0%
He defends 10.6 shots per night total.

That is a really high 2 point FG% allowed this season from him. It's actually the worst of his career.

When the best offensive player is asking one of the all time greats how he would go up against a peer, I think that speaks volumes. Players know much more than us or the garbage media.

No ceremony this year I guess...probably a good thing we won't have to wait on every award to be announced the same night.
