I feel for Kyrie and what his family went through but ultimately it doesn't really justify his exaggerated sense of self-importance and lack of accountability.

I mean its pretty obvious he's not working with a full deck upstairs but i think thats also what bothers people so much about him. Usually they feel they can bully people into doing what they want and think like they do but they cant phase this guy.
So he just continues to live rent free in everyone's head

Re: kyrie finally explains what happened to him in cleveland
Thanks for the summary!
I mean i think Kyrie does some crazy things and i dont agree with some of the things he says, but to grow up with his mom and grandma dying so early, and going through the stuff he went through, to make it to be one of the best people in the world in his profession and have made about a couple hundred million by age 30, man you have respect that.

Mental health issues are still no excuse for treating people like trash.

Delonte West did it but he gets all kind of sympathy.

That's a fairly common development in the face of such trials. I hope he's attending those issues with appropriate therapy and all that, because he can certainly afford the resources at this point. In the end, sports are a performance-driven environment, so there's only so much space for tolerance of things which erode a player's ability to contribute to the team, which can be very challenging for people atop an unstable mental health foundation, without question.
I think this puts it nicely into perspective.
It does explain why he has had issue in the spotlight, and it's clear his mental stability is not on par with his on court ability, and this causes issues when he is put under the same level of comparitive mental pressure (interviews, spotlight, player opinions etc etc)
However, to your point, there is only so much tolerance you can give somebody when they are in an industry that is almost solely graded through world wide top level performance. You can only give so much slack before it becomes a burden to support/cater to such a player when you could gain better overall production elsewhere.
I do hope he gets the relevant help and it shows how important it is to have a strong network around you (Lebron is likely the best example of this) Expecting some of these players to grow up with 'normal' behaviours when they are put under pressure that is far beyond any 'normal' worker is almost unobtainable using the 'normal' worlds day to day expectations.

Lol, that's because Delonte is a broke crackhead who got his head caved in in the streets. Kyrie is just an entitled multimillionaire asshat.

Re: kyrie finally explains what happened to him in cleveland
I’ve stated time and time again that my issues with Irving have little to do with who he is as a person. I knew about his issues growing up before this and what happened to his mother so him not being right in the head all the time isn’t something I ever had an issue with.
My issues are tied entirely to the way he plays the game of basketball and his approach to it. He never at any point in his career improved in the areas he needed to improve in. His scoring, his passing, totally fine starting out and he showed improvement in those areas. But his playmaking and ability to run the offense needed to improve. That never happened. His defense needed to improve. That never happened. His decision making needed to improve. Never happened. I wish he could have been more self aware of the weaknesses in his game and instead he’s spent his entire career ignoring them. It hasn’t just cost his team games, it’s cost them entire playoff series (the Celtics/Bucks series being a perfect example).

Nah, i just watched a documentary on Delonte last night. Pretty sad story actually and unfortunate people didn't understand mental illness back then as well.
Dude got bullied his whole life and the court was kind of his safety zone but then everyone started ridiculing him there too calling him "crazy" and stuff.
But yeah i do agree you cant save him at this point with his drug addictions. My Ex wife is like that and slowly dying from alcohol but there's nothing you can do to stop her.

watched it so you dont have to, although its a really interesting story.
TLDR: very minor but obvious speculation included.
Kyrie has always had mental health issues, but basketball hid them from even himself until he reached the top by winning the title and was left to confront his unresolved emotions from loss.
-kyrie mother and grandmother were victims of residential schools. For ppl who dont know, thats the process of abuse of indigenous by putting them in schools ran to assimilate them into white culture. a lot of people were killed and left with traumatic experiences.
- kyrie mom died of drugs as a result of her experiences when he was 4 years old... grandmother passed a year later. This is obviously the formative experience for the behaviour we see now, and probably has a lot to do with his antivax stance in not trusting both drugs or the government.
- basketball with his father was his way of coping. Irving said that the beginning of his "spiritual jorney/awakening" stuff started when the cavaliers won the title. This answers the question as to why this stuff seemed to start so suddenly
-Irving had put his all into basketball and felt unhappy, because there was something missing as a result of using basketball to cope with what hes missing
-he began to isolate himself from his teammates towards the end of 2017, which was reported by the media, and he felt like they would have had a better chance against the warriors even with durant if he wasnt going through his problems.
everything hes doing from the sage, the going home to brooklyn, the vaccine stuff, freaking out when a player called him the n word, his inability to handle the fans at the game, likely perceiving them as more racist than they are ..... it all makes infinitely more sense. him being so clutch in cleveland to not being able to handle big games anymore
I dont excuse some of his bad behavior, because theres tons of players with trauma who arent behaving like him, but i definitely understand that this seems to be him dealing with his mother after not acknowledging how much it hurt him for 20 years.
interviewers did an excellent job of asking the important questions and getting kyrie to coherently explain himself without talking about third eyes, and cosmic beings
I can't lie, I forget that he has indigenous roots and yeah based on what the Government(s) in North America has done to both Black and Indigenous folx, I can actually see and understand his stance on the vaccine in a bit more sympathetic light. I still think he has a ton of ego problems and is a bad teammate but I get his POV.

Oh, people are mad at Kyrie too, for a variety of reasons. But he's definitely not unfazed or unbothered at all. He basically is detailing how bothered he is lol.

Sure deep down he is but you would fold like a baby if the world criticized you all the time. He takes it and dishes back most the time.
