Steph is the superior team leader, which elevates him, but they are close. Frankly as Dray says a need to rank guys is old media. Both are great and approaching GOAT at their respective peaks as offensive talents. KD may be the GOAT iso offensive threat and Curry the GOAT off ball offensive threat, with both also great in the swapped roles.

Dray says that ranking is old media as a cop out. Old media didn’t creating rankings...humans been calling people chiefs and kings since time immemorial. And then we doubled down and started calling people chiefs of chiefs and kings of kings to rank them ever more.

Steph is better because somehow steph is a much better team mate and plays winning ball within a winning system.

I see Steph and KD more like Timmy and KG...who knows who is better individually but by virtue of Curry playing for Jackson and Kerr throughout his career, he has been a key contributor on more high winning teams

Except that KD had Kerr and could have still had Kerr yet decided that he wants to play ISO ball. There is no comparison here between KG and KD. KD has played with supreme talent his entire career. it's no one's fault but his own that he couldn't keep it together and that he has proven himself to be difficult to coach.

The moment that KG was surrounded with anyone even remotely near his level, he went to 2 finals in 3 years and helped win one of those. KG is one of the ultimate team players and sacrificed during his time in Boston for the sake of the team.

I’ll say it clearer - Steph is better than KD cause KD is so full of himself that he shot his own career and legacy in the foot by not listening to coaches and the media when they warned him that you are not better playing Iso ball with Kyrie and Harden vs playing with Dray, Klay and Curry... let alone the weakness of joining the guy that just beat you down.

Curry has stayed at home and led a dynastic GSW squad while KD is Essentially a weirdo that can ball but has never been the focal point of a winning org-

They are close when you think of best offensive talents .

But as far as a high IQ team player/leader championship leader....it's Curry.

Curry will always be the guy that won it without Durant....and Durant will always be the guy (until he wins another chip) that couldn't without Curry.

KD 1x MVP, 2x FMVP

Steph 2x MVP 0 FMVP

To be honest I'm kinda torn between these two. You got Steph the greatest shooter ever (changed the game) vs a Seven footer sharpshooter who moves like a guard and can score at will. But I'm curious what the majority thinks about these two.

Personally, I'm a fan of both player's skills but I'm leaning towards the smaller one that conquered the land of the giants by changing the game.

It's interesting that you felt that finals MVPs were worth comparing, but not championships or even Finals appearances.

Just for the record Steph has 3 rings and 6 Finals appearances and KD has 2 rings and 4 Finals Appearances.

Easily. He had a higher peak and accomplished more with less. I've got Steph comfortably in my top-10 all-time.

KD has Steph to thank for those FMVPs. If he wasn't drawing defenders away from him, KD would have about as much success as he's having in Brooklyn right now.

They both played on the same team, and I think Durant was obviously better. Stephen was more revolutionary, but unlikable KD was the better player, I am not shocked biased RealGM voting for Steph. but come on.

Durant's FMVP just don't have much value.

So your GOAT list isn't based on who the better player is?

Come on what..?..

it’s not only about talent

If it was just talent, per everyone, Kyrie would have more rings than anyone and have an MVP.

It’s about leadership, game, ability, heart and winning.

Leadership, winning and Heart all heavily in Currys favor....Curry has the only unanimous mvp and another mvp -

which trumps KD and Curry has a title without KD ...which KD hasn’t done without Curry

Curry has the most wins in reg season history...

to KDs does have 2 finals MVP to Currys MAgic Johnson award...

It’s not close to me...KD weak minded with amazing game. But KD weak minded and mean to the press that it almost not gonna matter when he retires... people gonna call this Lebrons era with Curry, Wade and Kawhi being the other true alpha winners of this time frame.

Better basketball player in a vacuum? KD.

Better overall career (which also somewhat teams, org, situations, luck etc)? Curry.

All time list isn't about just player comparisons, it's about their career as a whole with all the intangibles. In that sense Curry should win this poll comfortably.

It proves that the Warriors lost to the Celtics in a 7 game series for the NBA Champion in 2022.

Yes. It's not even close. Steph is on that Kareem, Magic, Larry Bird tier below Jordan, Lebron, and Wilt at the top alone.

No, I don't think anyone's is.

I kinda don't understand then. I understand that accomplishments and clutch play etc have to be factored in but for that to work so so much of that is contingency--did you happen to play on X team at Y moment with Z teammates. I feel like all that stuff isn't a very fair way to judge someone, especially if you have a clear and fresh conception of how good both players are.

People try to short-circuit that by talking about 'talent isn't greatness,' which works if you're talking about someone who didn't maximize his talent for whatever reason, but that's clearly not the case with KD or Curry. Or you could talk about doing it when it mattered most but both guys have monstrous PO stats and have a few crazy good series and some key disappointments.

I feel like it's weird double-think to say 'I think KD is a better player but Curry is better because he accomplished more,' without a thorough assessment of that.

No. When they were teammates for 3 seasons, Durant was the #1 player on the team, over Curry

Look at it like this: Did Steph needed KD to win 2 more titles, or did KD need Steph for his place in the best player hierarchy by getting his 2 rings?

I don't think its weird at all.

"GOAT" lists leverage circumstance and team success, that help mold personal accomplishment and achievement.

"Best" lists puts everyone in a vacuum.

To combine the two is too reject the variable of circumstance, which makes no sense.

If Jordan doesn't have Pippen, it is highly likely his GOAT status drops quite dramatically, as he would have far less team success. This does not change how good he was as a player.

Hakeem Olajuwon, got a significant GOAT boost, by Mario Elie hitting the "Kiss of Death". He also got dinged for John Stockton hitting a miracle 3 over Barkley in the playoffs. Had that not happened, he could have elevated himself further. 2 plays, he wasn't even involved in, does not change how good of a player he was, however it has quite the impact on his GOAT standing.
