Same thing it said about Lebron when the Lakers missed the playoffs in 2019. That despite being on a young rebuilding roster not yet ready to compete he was still one of if not the best player in the league.

I'll take Wemby and gamble on his development. He's such a unique talent and I think it will be easier to build around him rather than Tatum since he already plays a more difficult position to fill.

there would hardly be a sophomore player in NBA history I’d take over a star in his prime who just won a chip.

Maybe Wemby ends up as a freak MVP talent next season but if you want to win a title you are seriously underestimating the development in young stars it takes.

Most of the greats had to struggle at some point in time before winning one.

I don't even think Tatum makes sense in the conversation. Did people see how Wemby ended the year? What do you think he's going to look like at the end of next year? The only teams that shouldn't prefer him are those who are trying to tank. Victor is going to go into next season as the DPOY favorite as well as being on the better offensive hubs in the league.

Interesting caveat I hadn’t acknowledged but for the sake of it let’s say the additional salary wouldn’t have any tax implications.
