Doubt POR would be interested. Pretty sure they’d rather move Williams.

Reath is 28, and Clingan and Ayton are enough centers.

He’s pretty solid as a 3rd center. Not good enough for a 2nd center. He is 28 but Marjon is not interesting.

Ayton has no future in POR after his current contract.

Depth charts don't matter to you. Portland's a tanking team this yr given the top of draft commodities.

At 28, you should be looking to shop Reath. By the time Portland comes good, he'll already be in his 30's.

Marjon's not an interesting prospect to me. I'd go in another direction. But maybe another gm in the league sees something deep down in him & if he fails he helps the tank.

I’m not attached to Reath but there is no reason to give him up for nothing. He’s on a bargain contract. Marjon is going to need a new contract soon and fills no needs for POR.

Pass on this deal.

What's the deal with Robbins? Strictly a camp body? He was a bull in a china shop last night but it was refreshing to see a big guy out there who played like a big mean bastard.

Sunday morning at 10 is interesting. I guess they don't want to go against Packers at noon. But why not do Saturday? Back in the day the open scrimmage was the first Saturday after camp opened and coincided with single game tickets going on sale. It drew well. Glad they're still doing it.

ETA - Lil Wayne concert Saturday, that's why scrimmage is Sunday.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

For all this talk about traditional Centers going the way of NFL running backs the past several years, quality rotation bigs sure seem to be in short supply these days.

https://www.nbcsports.com/nba/news/lakers-reportedly-looking-at-marketplace-to-find-another-center

That brings us to the trade market and centers who might become available. One name to watch is Jonas Valanciunas, the Wizards are rebuilding and will be looking to move on from a few veterans including him. However, because Valanciunas re-signed this summer he cannot be traded until after Dec. 15.

The best free agent centers available — Robin Lopez and JaVale McGee — are older and still available for a reason.

Didn't even really think about how barren the market is until I read this. If you put Bobby and Brook on the block then there's probably 8-10 teams out there that would call us up immediately. A guy like Robbins could definitely be worth a flier on a two-way. Worth noting that he did attempt nearly 200 threes in college and hit 30.6% of them (36% his senior year). Maybe there's some low volume floor-spacing potential still there.

Horst and Doc have been pretty emphatic about how much the team values Brook lately.

Seems like it'd take a lot for us to deal him -- I suspect also because we think we could resign him for a fraction of his salary in this offseason.

In contrast idk if Bobby looking great in preseason makes it more or less likely he gets dealt.

Bet he's expecting a raise from us or someone before his opt out as well.

I think he's in an uphill battle to displace Pacesniks for a 2 way spot, but is an Exhibit 10 guy so will be with the Herd unless he gets another 2 way offer. And yeah it's great to see a big play big.

He really was dominant that last year at Vanderbilt; one weird thing we'll notice once we've watched him a bit is that his touch from outside is not bad, good enough that you can imagine him becoming a viable pick and pop guy. But his touch on the interior is really bad! If he can't dunk, it's an adventure. Like if we get to see him shoot a half hook, he just flips it at the backboard with a bent arm, super awkward, looks like he's never held a basketball before. I'll try to find an example. It's Biyombo-esque.

Herb starting at center seems about as silly as the Knicks claiming to be fine with Randle.

Rather than starting Theis, the Pelicans are eyeing versatile forward Herbert Jones as Valanciunas’ replacement heading into the 2024/25 season, ESPN’s Shams Charania told his colleagues on “The Pat McAfee Show” (YouTube video link).

“I’m told Herb Jones is essentially going to serve as the starting center for the Pelicans,” Charania said. “You look at CJ McCollum, Dejounte Murray, Brandon Ingram, Herb Jones and Zion Williamson, a lot of people are like, ‘Oh, Zion Williamson‘s playing the five.'”

However the team opts to configure its intended frontcourt of Ingram, Jones and Williamson, New Orleans will have a lot of intriguing optionality on offense.

“[Head coach] Willie Green came out the other day and said, ‘[Zion’s] not the five… We’re not talking about fives, we’re talking about [playing] position-less,'” Charania said. “I do think there’s some credence to that, but at the end of the day someone’s going to have to guard the other centers, and it’s going to be Herb Jones a lot of the time.”

Jones, 26, was an All-Defensive First Teamer during his third season in 2023/24. The 6’7″ swingman was the lone player to make the First Team who was not a center. It sounds like if he earns the distinction again this year, that may not be the case.

You would assume that we'd use the guy who's big and strong enough to keep from being swallowed up by centers, but that's where you'd be an idiot

3.2 blocks per game as a super senior, and SEC defensive player of the year.

Drop center, not switchable. Was fat in high school, but in great shape now with healthy habits.

Duop for Marjon is a no brainer if the deal is there.

I appreciate that his whole thing is apparently getting the ball from his hands to the hoop in as little wasted motion as possible.

All aboard the Robbins train. Most exciting young C prospect we have had since Pubes himself.
