It's not. Those reporters are in vast majority just incredibly soft. He would have killed himself right there, if the press conference was in Europe.
How nobody could have asked him, if he understands that trade is a failure and fans will never forgive him, no matter what team does in next few years?

If Nico colluded with Pelinka and the Lakers, then all his answers from the press conference really wouldn't make sense because that's not how it all went down.

Agree.
He responded in right way, he continued to support his move even it's already the biggest failure in NBA history and worst trade in sport history. But who cares, he has to cover his real deal. And he did it very well.

Anthony Davis 54,126
Kyrie Irving 43,962
Klay Thompson 16,667
Daniel Gafford 14,386
PJ Washington 14,152
Caleb Martin 9,560
Naji Marshall 9
Max Christie 7,714
Jaden Hardy 6
Derek Lively II 5,253
Dwight Powell 4
Olivier-Maxence Prosper 3
Dead money 2,2
12 players on roster, Brandon Williams will likely be the 13th, the draft pick will be the 14th.
Apron:
Total salaries 190M
First round pick cap hold 5,429
First Apron ~196
Second Apron ~208
Cap likely scenario is over the 1st Apron and below the second Apron, unless major salary shedding trade happens, meaning the Mavs will definitely operate below the 208 line
Exceptions available: TPMLE, 11M TPE from the Lakers trade
Limitations:
If the Mavs don't shed salary, Mavs can't use full MLE, BAE and can't receive players in a S&T.
Needs:
Glaring need, starting level PG to hold the fort until Kyrie is back.
PJ is a 4 and AD is a 5, if AD insists he's a 4, PJ is likely to be traded, if AD comes to grips with reality, Gafford is likely gone.
Available picks:
Mavs 25
Mavs 31 or 32
Lakers 29
Mavs have 2-3 seconds to send also.
I think PJ and Gafford are gone either way. PJ is expendable and Gafford is in a contract year. Personally I’d love to keep Gafford but I don’t see them paying big money to Gafford when Kyrie needs to get paid and Lively coming up soon. He’s kind of the odd man out.

Mavrelous wrote:My personal position is that Mavs need to:
1. Fire Nico, this is the key to Mavs path moving forward, any more decision he makes will dig the Mavs into a deeper hole.
2. Trade AD to either Rockets or Thunder, in the same trade try to get their pick back from CHA, AD is still worth a lot and can restock the asset shelf
3. Trade Martin, Kyrie, PJ and Gafford for assets, and rebuild from scratch around Lively
Kyrie isn't the difference between a contender and a lottery team, the team w/o Kyrie has shown it's not a PO team by any stretch, and this is a very important realization moving forward, building around 2 fragile stars for a team that making the conference finals would a surprise for isn't smart.
Example:
Trade AD for Hartenstein, Topic, Wiggins, 28 swap back OKC pick in 27 (has swap with Clippers) and 2 Nuggets 1sts.
Trade Hertenstein for Grant Williams, Josh Green and Mavs 27 1st.
This gives the Mavs control over 26, 27 and 28 drafts, and 3 years of full rebuild.
Trade Gafford and PJ for Maxi (has to go to a 3rd team) and Vando and Lakers 31st pick
They are not doing this while they are trying to get a new arena. They are going to try and keep this team competitive while they are trying to get the votes for the new arena.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2025 Trade thread -- Roster and Cap
The entire free agency could be a huge mess. Even though Nico said they don't plan to make big moves other than draft, it still could go either way.
Specially now that Dumont is starting to figure out what Nico has done. Reports are that he wants to bring in another exec to either help or oversee Nico. All this while Nico said in presser he doesn't do well if someone tells him what to do. People still wonder every day, how the hell does this guy still have a job. That press conference was another huge embarrassment for him and now this. The **** show keeps going on, it never stops.

Harrison has a job until next superstar will be traded... At this point Dumont can no longer hold him because the situation will be embarassing.

Probably can't get worse, Mavs already hit rock bottom. But on the other hand, Nico has found a way to make it worse each time so far

Also look at this. That maniac said Mavs were better with Casey gone, while Thibs running his starters in to the ground somehow Knicks managed to stay healthiest out of all NBA teams.

That was easily one of Nico’s biggest mistakes. He had a personal issue with Luka and fired everyone close to him even if it hurt the team. That alone should be a fireable offense.
I also can’t believe that he had to nerve to say that he believes he’s done a good job. Dismantling a Finals team is not doing a good job.

Yeah this is all the proof you need that he effed up. Some of us mentioned the Casey firing being a potential issue last offseason but I definitely didn't see it being this bad. Those stats are insanely alarming.
One can easily surmise if we never fired Casey, the team's health (particularly Luka's) would be better and the team could easily have been a top 3 seed. But hey, Nico gotta bring in "culture guys."

Every team needs a Draymond, Dort or an Isaiah Stewart. Lu Dort just tried to put Morant in a coffin today. Hopefully next season we have that type of player in Caleb Martin.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2025 Trade thread -- Roster and Cap
Personally I would like them to sign CP3, we need the best passer possible, yes he is old but it would only be a patch and he can still help.. he averaged around 8 assists and shot +- 38% from 3, we could use that.. then I would make room for this year's discoveries B. Williams / K. Edward / K. Jones for the minimum to replace Gafford / Powell / Hardy who would try to change it for a veteran in low hours (De Rozan / Smart / Middleton/Vuc) use the LAKERS selection to move up in the Draft and select Jakucionis and take advantage of CP3's mentorship
AD/Lively/K.Jones
PJ/Marshall/K.Edwards
(Veterano)Martín/O-Max
Klay/Christie/Draft
CP3/B.Williams/*KI
AD/Lively/K.Jones

Free agency? Will the MLE get it done?

I think sign and tradr with Gafford going somewhere else (of Hardy/Powell), it'll necessitate working below 1st Apron though.
