Better question, what is stopping OKC from trading for Davis AND Flagg! Calling Mavs and offering the bag for Flagg while taking Davis as the side piece. Flagg would set that roster for 10+ years.
Chet
Davis
Flagg
Jalen
SGA
And still NBAs deepest bench.

If OKC had Giannis then SGA would shoot less, and with Giannis they would have destroyed Indiana instead of watching SGA turn the ball over 8 times in Game 6 or go 8-27 in Game 7.

In any OKC trade, one of the primary qualities they'd be looking in the player coming back is a cheap contract. There's no way to hold together a team that is pay max or near-max money to 4 players.
Accordingly, instead of Giannis, I believe the guy they should be targeting is Deni Avdija because he is only paid $13M for the next 3 years. He would be perfect as another versatile defender, offensive creator, and stout rebounder.
A Core Four of SGA, JDub, Avdija and Chet would be unbeatable. Add one more stout defensive guard like Dort or Caruso and it's a hellacious switch-everything defensive juggernaut. Add a big center like Hartenstein and it's a massive, punishing, bully ball lineup. Add a shooter like Isaiah Joe and it's a 5-out spacing nightmare.

Absolutely nothing besides Presti being hesitant about shaking up a juggernaut

OKC doesn’t need him.

OKC needed Giannis last season, as they were taken to the brink by Denver and Indiana... and the list of challengers are stronger this season.

No they didn’t.
They won without him and are even better this year.

Almost isn't good enough. Other team almost won vs OKC. OKC on the other hand, won those series.

4 max contracts isn't a thing anymore in this CBA. The Thunder are trying to maximize a 6+ year window. Adding Giannis would shorten that dramatically.

The Thunder WILL be forced to do a trade(s) of some sort. It's just a numbers game really. They have too many picks and not enough roster spots. What I think is going to happen is they'll package all of their picks to move way up into the top 5 for a blue-chipper.

In almost every case, I would say it would be insane for OKC to mess with what they've built. However, Giannis is a guy you make an exception for.
Chet and 2 1sts for Giannis is a trade both OKC and Milwaukee should make if Giannis ever became available.

OKC trading for Giannis makes zero sense tbh.
From Gianni’s’ impending free agency and expensive deal, to his age, to his fit either Shai, to the number of cost controlled assets they’d give up, to OKC financial limitations, to the fact they’re dominating the league already again…it just seems like something they wouldn’t even consider.

He has thought about it in the past I'm sure but with Dort and JDub out and with roleplayers like Mitchell Joe and Wallace stepping up it shows how important depth has been a success for OKC.

His age? He's going to be 31 in 2 weeks. He very likely has 5-6 elite, MVP level seasons beyond this one. At that point SGA would be 32-33.

That's a great idea. I agree he would be perfect for them and his contract is nothing short of criminal.
I wonder what the asking price is. If Dort is the matching salary, how many first does OKC have to attach?

Re: What’s stopping OKC from trading for Giannis?
Giannis isn't good enough to sacrifice a 10 year title window for the possibility of immediate guaranteed success.
And his style of play is requires a team to accommodate him and why would OKC turnover their entire teambuilding strategy to build around a ball handling forward that can't shoot?
They would never do that trade.
Getting a player to perform like Avdija for the cheap at his age is better than multiple first round picks.
