It looks like a travel to me, but it is very similar to the up and under move guys do in the post, when Kobe does it it is just so out in the wide open that it looks worse. Anyways, apparently it is not a travel since they allow him to do it, so what can you do?

Traveling and palming the ball are the two most violated rules in the NBA and since they (the refs) choose not to enforce it, more power to the players. Actually, the game would be kind of boring if they called every infraction.

that is not a travel at all, that's his signature move, the pump fake + pivot spinning move + lean in jumper. He never lifted his pivot foot, he just stepped through with the other foot which is perfectly legal. It is such a shame most players don't take advantage of the pivot the way Kobe does, such great fundamentals. I mean, that move is so great that if I recall correctly LeBron used EXACTLY THE SAME MOVE the following night, even the commentators noticed it, they said something like: that's shows the fans that even star players watch highlights from other star players, and LeBron clearly watched Kobe's."

Listen, I hate the rapist as much as the next guy, but that is not a travel. Only people who have never set foot on a basketball court and who are developmentally challenged would think that that is a travel

Oh puhhlease... how can you say jordan's was a travel and kobe's wasn't? they're EXACTLY identical! they both jump up from their pivot feet. are you biased or something?

That one versus the Knicks actually isn't a travel I don't think, but I've seen him do the step though then shoot it off of 1 foot (not his pivot foot) and not get called for it. Not saying he's not awesome. Nobody get offended. If I see it again i'll youtube it, till then I won't argue and get anyone too upset. People take stuff a little too personal.

kobe's 'incredible' moves are actually travels.

Have you seen Magic's Fundamental's video?

Rip Hamilton explains that if you catch the ball (or pick up a dribble) with one or less feet touching the ground then you don't actually pick your pivot foot until the second foot hits the ground. At that point you can choose either foot as the pivot. That's why the shot against Manu wasn't a travel. The move Kobe used to pick up the ball actually caused both feet to come off the floor. Sure, one foot came down first (his back foot) but he didn't choose a pivot until the fronot foot hit the ground.

If you watch closely when wing players come out to the perimeter to catch the ball you'll see they often try to catch the ball on one foot.

Watch some of the highlight shots they show, especially the second shot, Rip ALWAYS catches the ball with at least one foot of the ground because it gives you the ability to pivot either way. He usually doesn't pull the Kobe move because the pivot is extremely awkward. It's not a travel though.

Actually, Kobe has a normally shaped head. That's what makes it look weird. Most NBA players his size have gigantic heads, his actually seems somewhat small for his body.

Lebron said himself he watches Kobe play every night. Actually a lot of players have admitted studying Kobe's footwork.

(Please Use More Appropriate Word), he has already used his dribble, he steps through and takes off on the foot that is closest to the basket. It's an obvious travel. Both feet are not close to leaving the floor at the same time. I like watching the Lakers and the Cavs. RealGM's biggest hater? Okay you're right, Kobe never travels. Ya got me.

LMAO, ur the one that looks tarded here. You can take off with the foot you step through with. You just can't come back down with your pivot foot. It's that simple.

You can't take your pivot foot off the ground with your other foot still on the ground.

Yes you can, as long as you're going up for a shot or pass.

Nope. You have to jump off both feet. Or just your pivot foot. Picking up pivot foot = change in pivot foot = travel.

Common post move: Back to the basket, drop step towards the basket with the right foot and take off with the right foot. You call that a travel too? because it's the same thing.
