As for the players that the OP mentioned as his replacement - West or A'm''a'''r''''e''''', I'd still take a 30-something Duncan over them.

Just clarifying,I said that If TD is willing to take some salary cut, West can play WITH him, not replace him.

We just traded away 5 straight championships right there. What were the Spurs thinking when they did that???

Suns fan here- I think it would be horrible to trade Duncan. He did so much for the Spurs, and to dump him for even a player like Lebron James would be like a slap in the face. Duncan has been the face of the franchise for a while and I can't even imagine the Spurs without TD. Even though I would enjoy that

I don't question Spurs fans' loyalty to Duncan, but I honestly think they would be really stupid not do dump him for LBJ. The Spurs make that move in a heartbeat. Hell, in a 1-for-1 trade, I would give up anybody in the league for Lebron.

Well, no team is gonna offer Wade or Lebron for Duncan. that's just not gonna happen.

Any team that wants to trade for Duncan are teams that feel they're a piece away from the title.

Now, teams like Cleveland or Miami won't trade Lebron for Duncan. Their idea would be to pair Lebron WITH Duncan.

For that to happen, the Spurs themselves must feel their championship window is gone. That's the only way the Spurs ever trade Duncan. That means the Spurs, in a trade for Duncan, will then be looking for draft picks, cap room, and youth.

It's not likely the Spurs trade for Jefferson and go over the tax only to trade Duncan away and give up on the title.

I wouldn't say that he's a "finesse" player, he's a very skilled and technical player.

Well in all reality, Lebron isn't being traded for any one player, maybe even two or three players. But I'm just saying, I don't think Duncan is worth trading, he means alot for the franchise.

Management has said in the past that as long as Duncan is still playing they're going to do everything possible to stay a contender. So I really don't we'll ever come to that point.

That would be the dumbest move you guys ever made. Duncan still has a lot of game left.

I believe TD will understand and step aside once this contract is over

Thats the way I see it happening. He's accomplished basically everything a player could want to do and I think when his time is up he'll walk away with dignity. Guys like Malone, Ewing and Payton all went chasing rings and for me at least it really tarnished the way I remember them.
