Re: Hawks Trade Scenarios For Jeff Teague
See, I differ. I think his trade value stays high as long as you DON'T hand him the keys. Lets be honest, Dennis Schroder is just is likely to be good in the playoffs or shoot 25% from the field and average 6 turnovers and cause us to get swept. If that happens, you start to look at the season before when he was the worse player in the playoff rotation as well, they might even go back to his rookie year when he was arguably the worse player on the team...that's when the questions would start about his ACTUAL potential is. That to me is too big of a gamble.
There are numerous cases where a player simply destroys their value with a bad performance and Schroder is honestly more likely to have a bad performance(especially in the playoffs) than great. I honestly think he could net you a lottery pick if you keep him as a back up that people thinks has the potential to be a solid starter. If he goes out there and proves that he isn't, you lose everything.

I was against it , but now, UNLEASH DS , see what he can do
BINGO! It would make no sense for him to be approaching year 4 and we still not have a decisive answer on whether he can be a starter on this team in this system...
That'd be even dumber than never trying AL at Power Forward for a season in 9 years of Hawks basketball....

Elfrid Payton seems to be entrenched at PG and Herzonja looks like a promising SG. VO3 still has some promise but it probably won't be realized in Orlando. Ben McLemore is in a similar situation. These teams hold on to players as long as they are on cheap contracts but if they don't wow them or clearly show improvement they will move on.
With reports now coming out that we are indeed discussing Teague for Oladipo, I concede and stand corrected. I'd love to do that trade.

Which is a valid point indeed. The question then becomes, who do we move forward with? Teague or DS? Although we want to keep DS's value as high as possible, he has been in the league for a while now.
Teams aren't going to wait as long we want them to find out what kind of player Dennis really is. The deadline is the time for us to make a move on one of our PG's and it sounds like we are trying to hand the team over to Dennis since we are shopping Horford and KK as well.
I'm all for a DS trade as well though. I just hope we can mirror what the Braves have done so far in their rebuild.

I'm not a fan of Oladipo, but the value is close to fair. If this is the best offer on the table so far for Teague, and the deal went down, I wouldn't be upset with it.
I would rather the Hawks try to find a 6'9 3DSF to replace Carroll and Korver, but if their are none on the market, then Oladipo is fine.

Re: Hawks Trade Scenarios For Jeff Teague
I had a thought overnight. I think Oladipo has the chance to be a very good SG. not an offensive juggernaut, but an above average, two-way, get to the rim star. At a position that is woefully devoid of talent throughout the the league.
He has a good work ethic and a desire to excel. In our system, at age 25, he could possibly be as good as Jimmy Butler is today. An above average player, perennial All Star with no real holes in his game...
If we think VO has a chance to be really good in this league for years to come...there's no way we can turn down a trade to acquire him. certainly not for a single season of Teague. Not even for a single season of Paul Millsap.
If we can get in on the ground floor of a young star, mold him in our system and have him under team control for the next 4+ years (into his prime)....
we have to take him, right?

YES. YES YOU HAVE TO TAKE HIM. Im not saying hes the next Wade or Kobe , but OLADIPO is worth more than 1 year of Teague simply for the fact that hes younger and you ahve more control over him and we have 3 PGs on the roster already.
DEVELOP OLADIPO, play DS and see what you got.

Absolutely. I'm also on record saying that I think his jump shot will come around when he gets to work with our exceptional shooting coaches.
I'd give a first round pick in addition to Teague without much hesitation.

Victor Oladipo and Tobias Harris are reportedly on the trading block.
If a trade happens, i would rather have Harris over Oladipo. It makes for sense for the Hawks to get a SF for Teague.

Re: Hawks Trade Scenarios For Jeff Teague
I like both, but would take Oladipo as I think having a young SG under contract is worth more (because you can move Korver to bench or trade him) and we have some options at SF in Baze going forward. I also think we could make a play for a veteran

I think Baze would be better at SG with Tobias at SF. We need more size. He's averaging 7 rebounds per game. Harris is still only 23 years old. Korver still to the bench.

Saw this trade somewhere else:
Teague and Splitter for Tobias and Jason Smith.

I wouldnt be opposed either way, but I really like Oladipo. To be honest I only know very little about Harris.

All of this makes sense. But this line of thinking scares me enormously.
We'd turn down a top young prospect...because of role players?
Oladipo has a higher ceiling than Baze, Tobias or Korver, is cheaper than any of them will be next season, and yet we'd pass on him because of his fit on the 2016 roster?
My fear is that we too often try to just add to the flawed collection of players we have in the short term instead of focusing on acquiring the best talents and surrounding THEM with complementary pieces in the long-term. It's a very short-sighted approach to team building.
Oladipo has a chance to be a top player in the next 2-3 years...how could we possibly turn down a shot at such a talent because of...Kent Bazemore?
Do we really consider a Tobias/Bazemore combination on the wing championship caliber?

Re: Hawks Trade Scenarios For Jeff Teague
I think the Hawks have 3 issues going forward:
SG
SF
CENTER
Right now we have Holliday and THJ in the pipeline , both are SGs (JH is listed as being able to play SF). But lets be honest right now they are backups.
Oladipo would be your starting SG and take care of that for a long time to come. He has more talent than any of the guys at those positions on the roster (yes even Baze).
SF we have a ton of problems there as well as Baze really ISNT a SF, but hes been more than serviceable at that position this year, some would say better than DMC(offensively). What we really need is a rim protector. Oladipo can create his own shot, something we dont have right now outside of maybe Millsap. I really feel getting a Big man to rebound and clean up around the basket is A1 top priority if we were to land someone like Oladipo.
I can live with Baze at SF, PM at PF if we have a legit Center (someone like Mozgov). You cant be undersized at every position if you dont have shot creators or talent levels high enough to take advantage of those mismatches.

Re: Hawks Trade Scenarios For Jeff Teague
It's noteworthy that we are, for the second year in a row, pursuing a young wing player that we recently passed on in the draft.
But this year, we're getting shot down as their current team deems them to valuable to part with...
We gotta fix our scouting department. Rodney Hood should already be on this team, awaiting the opportunity to take over the starting SF position.

Looks like the Tobias Harris for Brandon Jennings trade might have killed any Hawks/Orlando trade.
I'm hoping their is still something out there for Teague. Maybe Teague for the Bucks' protected first round pick (top 5 protected 2016, unprotected 2017) or Teague for McDerrmot and first round pick?

Knicks offer is beyond bad. The only package that the Knicks could make for Teague would be Calderon, Jerian Grant, and their unprotected 2017 first round draft pick.
Calderon with his contract is a negative value. Grant and a first round pick would equal an all star like Teague.
