As I said already, and believe it even more, He is J Tatum - lite. Too good to pass up despite not being our top needed position. Needs to bulk up like Tatum did. But a long, versatile, shooter, scorer, creator who can play defense is always good to have.

But we already have Tatum. Why would we want a worse version of Tatum?
We have a logjam at the wing position (Tatum, Langford, Brown, Fournier, Smart, Nesmith, Ojeleye)IMO, wing is the last thing we need. These are our biggest needs:
1) A legit stretch 4. Someone like Tatum but bigger and with better rebounding/inside scoring/rim protection...someone like a Jalen Johnson...so Tatum can play more at the 3 (his natural position) and also so we don't have to play Grant W, Ojeleye and parker so many mins at the 4
2) A pure PG, floor general with good size and passing ability, who can also defend and shoot well enough to keep defenses honest...like Gibbey
3) A center with good size to bang with opposing bigs in the paint but also with the quickness/agility to switch on screens, plays hard..and if he can stretch the floor with outside shooting, even better. Like Mobley but obviously no way we're getting him..
You do your best to fill one of these needs with the 16th pick, or possibly try and trade up to get a good player who fills one of these needs if you're not wild about the guys who will actually be available at the 16 spot..or just trade the pick for a veteran who fills one of the above 3 needs since we're one of the youngest teams in the league this season which is no doubt a reason for our inconsistency, underachieving and poor defense - teams who are very young are usually inconsistent, they typically underachieve and they typically aren't as good defensively, so maybe instead of getting younger we trade the pick and get older..
saying a "worse version" of Tatum sounds like you don't like Tatum. And Yes we have other bigger needs but you don't draft a lesser player on a need. If there is equal value at the other positions then by all means draft them.
Meanwhile of your Wing list - Semi is gone. Romeo is way too unproven as a shooter. Fournier is NOT guaranteed to come back, Smart may be traded or gone after a year. My philosophy of switch-able wings with 2 way abilities are hardest to get and they are the Top position in today's NBA game.
you also mentioned 2 players who may very well be long gone.
Again, still early and we all have our "binkies" just stating why I like ZW..
did mention before a trade up may be ideal if they can get a trade partner.
1) No, I love Tatum. Just saying, we already have tatum. So it's redundant to add another guy who's just like Tatum, especially if that player is like Tatum but not as good as him
2) I get it, I know switchable wings who are 2 way players are super valuable in the modern NBA, you're preaching to the choir.
3) I know it's not a sure thing that Fournier resigns here. And I know Smart might get traded. But Smart is 27 and Fournier is 28. They're both in their prime. So I get that there's a chance that 1 of them is gone next season but IMO Ainge would be an idiot if we start next season without Fournier and Smart. IMO we need to keep 1 of them, or both of them, but starting next season without both of them would be a mistake - then you compound that mistake by drafting Zaire Williams because then we're a young team that is getting even younger. You'd have 3 baby/young/raw/developing wings all on the same team competing for mins with Langford (age 21), Nesmith (age 21) and Williams (age 19). It's bad enough that we have 2 baby/young/raw/developing wings, we don't need 3. Unless you draft Williams but then turn around and trade either Williams or Nesmith or Langford.
Getting rid of Fournier (age 28) and/or Smart (age 27) and drafting Williams (age 19) would be a terrible mistake. We need to get older - not younger. The youngest teams in the league this year: OKC, MIN, MEM, ORL, DET, NOR, BOS, CHA, SAC, SAN. None of of those teams are even close to being a contender and most of them are at the bottom of the standings.
4) I get that Langford is unproven as a shooter. But a) he's a better defender than Nesmith. b) Langford had surgery on his wrist earlier this season, and the surgery was on his shooting hand. It's expected that his shot isn't quite there yet c) Bottom line, you're not going to give up on Langford yet, you're going to keep developing him. Dude has barely played 50 NBA games, only had 1 season of college ball, has battled injuries and COVID, but has a ton of upside which is why he was a lottery pick. Nesmith was a lottery pick too. We picked Nesmith in the lottery last year and we picked Langford in the lottery year before that. We need to stick with these guys, keep developing them...and NOT draft a wing with our first pick for the 3rd year in a row - especially not draft a wing with the 16th pick which is after Langford and Nesmith got picked which means Williams probably won't be as good as those guys anyways.
I don't want another wing. Either a stretch 4, a big man or a pass-first PG with size, please. Or trade the pick for a veteran who fills 1 of those 3 voids since we need to get older, not younger..
