I don't get why you keep reminding everyone Banton is from Rexdale. Is it impressive that an NBA caliber player came out of a relatively poorer neighborhood? Is it that different from an NBA caliber player came out of a relatively richer neighborhood such as Thornhill (Andrew Wiggins) or Mississauga (RJ Barrett)
The dude literally has the number 45 on his back to represent the bus route he took.

He's reping Rexdale.

I spent the first 12 years of my life in Rexdale. It's awesome that the first Canadian drafted by the Raptors is from there.

that explains it

If Dalano ever gets down some resemblance of a jumper...holy crap.

per franchise freddy "if he can hit the 3, he's going to be a problem."

that 3 will catapult him to difference maker as a starter.

freddie, banton, scottie, siakam, og lineup? be still my beating heart.

Thats what ive been thinking. There's a handful of Cs (embiid) for whom it might not work....but no more than 5. Btw i dont think jokic necessarily counts as one. I don't think a traditional C is the way to go with him anyways. Embiid, ayton, townes might be problems though.

Against all the other teams i think the fact that you have 4 guys with that kinda wingspan makes up for the lack of a traditional C. And then u have one of the highest IQ defenders in fred to take care of the steph curry's and trae Young's.

Honestly....Banton has been my favorite part of this season so far. It's basically like we got another guy who's top 15. I did NOT see this coming. And then being from Rexdale? And with both barnes and banton having jamaican heritage? My inlaws watched basketball for the first time this year.

I don't get why you think Delano grew up in a poorer neighbourhood just because he is from Rexdale. This house is in Rexdale. Maybe he lived in something like this?

Also, it's okay for hometown fans to feel good about their hometown players. Wtf

with the way he's playing, might have to rename it sexdale.

Nah, Banton is from the community housing projects opposite North Albion Colegiate, so I’ve been told. Rough area.

Banton grew up in Mount Olive - Silverstone near Albion Rd and Kipling. It’s an area that attracts a lot of new immigrants because of public housing in the area. Nothing like the rough projects in urban US cities, but Banton was definitely not living a lavish lifestyle as a kid, like one of the previous posters suggested.

He's been one of the best rookies. Which is crazy considering where he was selected and how much inexperience he has at every level.

Marmoset wrote:I have no idea how he lasted until the 46th pick. Even in pre-season as I was watching him and his combination of skill and size, I thought there has to be a team that would take a chance on a guy like that in the late first round.

Also, an interesting tidbit that may or may not be apparent - Dalano was drafted with the pick we got for Terence Davis. I think this worked out alright.

He was not ranked in any draft. He declared late, so he has to go to the G-League Camp to get a Draft Combine invite. I don't think he was invited to Draft Combine, and wasn't exposed to other teams much.

Basically other teams didn't scout him enough, as Banton is older and cannot shoot, some teams may rate him lower. Besides Raptors are one of the limited teams who would draft for positionless players, so he is pretty much a perfect fit for us.

I know this is the most irrelevant game, but I really hope Banton makes the rookie challenge game

If he stays in the rotation there's a good chance. Currently 14th in total minutes.

Flynn needs some reps in 905 and be third utility PG in case of injuries. That spot is currently GD’s but he is the one we need to trade for a C

Maybe. Sengun, Giddey, Duarte, Avdija, Poku, Maledon? That team looks so bad they'll probably scrap the format.

I think that could be Mykailiuk once Watanabe and Siakam come back.

Wagner, Achiuwa? I feel like that's not terrible in normal circumstances. It just doesn't help that Ball and Edwards are playing at close to an all-star level in their second years.

I'm worried refs will start calling carrying on him because it's so obvious he palms the ball frequently

That’s like majority of the league but ya he does carry a lot.
