Putting my dislike of him aside, I've said before that if he could cut out his bad habits and stick to his strengths off the bench, he'd be a perinneal 6th man of the year contender, and win 1 or 2 of them. I still believe that.Parliament10 wrote:Jaqua92 wrote:That said, he's a great *passer*, but there's a difference between being a passer and a playmaker.Parliament10 wrote:Wow. Well said.
Which is why I'd prefer Smart as a secondary playmaker.
Hell, I think Tatum has shown more upside as a playmaker than Smart. Smart passes better, but Tatum has quickly learned to use his gravity and manipulate the defense, to "make plays"... Like he just did for Brown there, though Brown missed the shot and the pass was a bit wild.

Agreed.
Smart is my favorite active NBA player.
But, go back to 6th-Man. Celtics are Famous for having a Stellar 6th-Man.
But I feel Brad's long leash of him enabled his bad habits over the years, and until this year, he just tried to do too much. But now, he's put in a role that isn't tailored to his strengths, and I'm not sure if he can be "that bench guy" anymore because of how much this "starter" stuff has been perpetuated, how much he's been paid, etc.
Unrelated, but Jokic is without question my favorite player in the league. Love that big oaf.
