As an Aussie this is really disappointing and surprising, Giddey seemed like a smart kid just based on how he conducts himself. On the other hand he went to St Kevin’s high school so actually not that’s surprising, Melburnians will understand that last part

It’s a bad look no doubt about it. I take it with a grain salt. Yeah he’s a dckhead but I’ve experienced, witnessed and been shared confirmed stories on this grey area. It happens frequently in sports from the local scene all the way up at each interval.

2. We’ve all been in high school so I won’t comment too much on physical maturity of both genders. It’s as if there’s high school boys that are going on 30 and need to shave everyday that isn’t surprising to me (used to be a student counsellor) lol)

I saw on reddit that the girl just turned 18 making her 17 last year when this supposedly took place.

Age of consent is 18 in California. This girl is under 18 clearly based on yearbook photo.

Age of consent is 16 in OKC. This girl goes to school in California. If Giddey has paid for her to travel to OKC or anywhere, he is mega toast under the Mann Act.

The only saving grace is that there is no evidence that they had sex. And the girl isn't willing to offer Giddey up.

This is more a technical law for fines. The only way this becomes a big deal is if the age gap was more than 3 years and/or the NBA get upset by the optics.

I guarantee that everyone here has a parent or grandparent that has broken this Californian law in their lifetime

From what I've seen the "just had sex with Giddey" person is different and some volleyball player in college and his age, 21, but then the pics with the other girl who said she dated Giddey is the underage one, so they would have to confirm stuff in that case.

Maybe she's 18/was 17 when it happened, maybe she's 15/was 14 when it happened? Maybe it happened in a state where the legal age is 16, maybe it happened in a state where it is 18. A couple of photos and a salacious caption aren't the be all/end all needed for a conviction. honestly they’re so deep with young talent, and assets, i think they’ll be fine in the long run if Giddey faces a punishment. Obviously it’s not great for them, but I don’t think it effects their ability to build a contender.
