Very true. As a long time suffering Knick fan I wonder if the team has been so bad for so long that the Homerism for our own players is even greater than fans of other teams. Vonleh, Burke and a few others are but trade fodder to entice a team to return useless expiring contracts for taking on Hardaway and Lee. I'm putting faith in Perry that is as yet unwarranted but I'm forever the optimist until he proves to be a stooge of the FO or as incompetent as his most recent predecessors. He appears to have drafted some legitimate potential players in Knox and Robinson, identified Trier and Vonleh, stuck with a few players who have grown to the point of being potential upgrades on another team's bench and has shifted to a one year contract for players like Hezonja from the multi-year contracts for equally meh players that had become the norm. Remember Howard Eisley and Shandon Anderson from the Layden jr. era? Ernie Grunfeld delivered the last great Knick trade in Latrell Sprewell.

Knicks cut Kanter. Goes to Kings on minimum deal with promise of playing time.

Knicks trade

Hardaway JR
Lee
Knox
Frank
Lance
Kornet

Kings trade

Zach Randolph
Iman Shumpert
Ben Mclemore
Kostas Koufos

We would have a ton of free cap space after this. Everyone on our team is expiring besides Mitchell/Dotson and Trier.

KP/Mitchell/Vonleh
Durant/Vonleh/Beasley (Durants best friend and i wouldnt mind him back on a vet min deal)
Zion/Beasley
Dotson/Trier
Kyrie/Collison/Burke (Vet min)

You attach small assets to get cap space for Hardaway and lee you don’t trade your best assets in Knox and to a stretch frank

There would be no need to stretch JR. Only $3.9 million of his salary is guaranteed for next season.

We could. I think we can have up to 15% of the cap stretched.

My apologies, I misread. That's an interesting question. But I somehow doubt you can stretch a contract that has been waived.

I don't think Frank is enough for a rebuilding team to take on 2 years of THJ and a year of Lee. I think perhaps we could look at Frank, THJ and Lance Thomas for that package, which means we are using Frank to get rid of about 13 million of salary (and 17 mil in 2020). I actually like Hood, but not sure I like this deal.

Another person sleeping on how good Dotson can become if given consistent minutes. I think he could be a Danny Green or Wes Mathews type of 3-D player. I don't add Dotson to any trade if it doesn't have us getting back a legit star player.

You can as long as the stretch won't leave you with more than 15% of the cap devoted to stretched money.

Dotson is already 24 so his growth curve is slowly plateauing and he doesn't have the defensive discipline those guys have... Not saying he can't get better but he's still got a ways to go to reach Danny Green's consistency as a shooter and I don't think he'll ever reach Wes's level of offensive output either...

Dot always gets beat back door and off ball because he's too aggressive on D (similar to early career Shump). I think he's good on ball though. Also those guys at age 24 were better shooters than Dot is. Green was shooting 43% on 3.5 3's per game and Matthews was shooting 4.5 3's per game. For reference Dot has shot 37% on 3.6 3's per game this year.

I think the issue is people hear 3 and D and immediately think oh he'll just be Wesley Matthews or Danny Green not realizing hwo good those guys actually are on both ends. I see Dot as like more of a Garret Temple type where on a good team he's probably a bench player who plays like 15-25 minutes a night and you don't see too much of a slip off from your starters and if he wants to cash in he could probably start on a borderline playoff team or tanking team. And I don't mean to slight Dot... getting that kind of player in the 2nd round is a great grab by the organization.

Well this is obviously Dotson's 2nd year and has never gotten consistent minutes to get better so kinda hard to predict what he can do without him getting consistent minutes to get better and show what he can do like Wes and Danny have.

Danny Green got 23 mpg in his age 24 season. Dotson currently gets 24mpg. Wes got starter minutes but if you use per 36 Dotson is still way behind where Wes was at the same age. Again Dot can certainly improve but he's got a longer way to go than those gusy did at the same time.
