PJ should 100% sign the extension. The minutes arent gonna be there like they were before in a stacked FC and without an elite PG, he might go back to looking like Charlotte PJ. He should get his money knowing he'll probably be traded next offseason (unless AD is traded and Mavs go young)

I don't think his play depends on the PG offensively too much. you have to worry a lot more about PJ mailing it in and playing like trash when there's nothing to play for when the Mavs are below .500 midseason.

Agree it's in PJ's best interest to lock down an extension early. It honestly may not be for Dallas

I won't jump the gun and have a knee-jerk reaction after one debut game, but it may be that Bill Belichick without Tom Brady just isn't as great as advertised. Ala Klay Thompson without Steph

Maybe a guy's performance in an age 34 season after consecutive ACL and Achilles injuries doesn't tell us all that much about how good he was in his prime

Respectfully disagree, he won a title with Steph after all that, but is now JAG, at best. He' was good, but maybe he was just riding coattails to greatness

Haven't watched this yet, but what I'm gathering from the reddit comments on this is that this is easily Joe Smith/Timberwolves levels of bad.

By the looks of it, yes. Paying a player and their family money this amount of money is a massive red flag.

Now, here is the part where I get caught up on. The NBA loves Ballmer. He turned around the Clippers, helped build a stadium which required almost 0 public funding, I think 29 other arena's had more public funding than this arena. He has been a passionate owner, an involved owner at the right level where he isn't overly involved like a Jerry Jones type.

How is the NBA going to handle one of their best owners? Let's find out.

That development came out of left field, and why do it for a player as unreliable as Kawhi as good as he is.

I'm watching now, so I don't have specifics, but when he signed will matter, greatly, I think. Lots to find out before we dive too terribly deep into punishments?

Just finished watching. Pablo nailed it again. A timeline is established. Documents and interviews are shown. This was treated with the seriousness it deserves.

It's definitely worth your time if you're interested in such subjects.

Joe Smith feels like the floor for Ballmer/LAC’s eventual punishment if this turns out to be true.

Hard to think of a more anticompetitive violation of the CBA than paying a player off the books to circumvent cap/tax/apron AND max salary rules

Ridiculous, lets see if there is any real punishment. If the tampering ones are any indication, there won't be anything scaring teams from doing this type of thing down the line.

But if it could help the Lakers, I wouldnt be surprised if Kawhi's Clippers contract is voided and he joins Lebron and that other guy

I'm still watching, but it's solid/top notch stuff.

One thing standing out to me is that the signing date of his affiliation with Aspiration was 4/1/22, which is well after he joined LA, a solid year after he opted out and re-signed with LA, and a year and a half before he signed his most recent extension. Seems like some "plausible deniability"?

Edit:
But the fact that the agreement includes a termination clause for if Kawhi is no longer employed by the Clippers is BAD.

If uncle Dennis can spiritually support the planting of virtual trees for 28 million United States dollars, Mavs can pay a 1st to have LeBron on a buyout :)

Yep, some of the gaps are loose. But we do know that KL2 Aspire LLC was established in November of ‘21. If I have my timeline correct, that’s closely following a September ‘21 report of agreeing to an extension with LAC.

I was waiting for you to see that last bit. Not much wiggle room there. For those that didn’t watch, it even goes into detail about a situation where he could be paid by the team but not playing for them.

Mid market owners are going to riot over this and Silver needs to drop a hammer at least as painful as the one the Wolves got for the off-the-books Joe Smith deal.

Also, Leonard should be suspended indefinitely (even if that would indirectly benefit the Clippers). There needs to be serious disincentives on both sides of these types of transactions.
