The whole Petro thing is probably an 'out' for a pending deal of Melo says 'no go'. That way the parties involved can keep the pressure on Melo to sign but also save face and say, 'still looking for another team to complete deal'. Trust me, the Nets won't let Petro stop a deal of Melo is signing. They will gladly eat the idea of having to move him if push came to shave and it was holding up the deal.
Seriously... is anyone really falling for that?
I saw a tweet that said the Knicks should call all of their bluffs and agree to take Petro, lol

“There could be an agreement by tomorrow,” another maintained.
Multiple league sources confirmed that the Nets, Nuggets and Pistons are close to agreeing on a deal that is similar, but not as exact, as the 17-player megadeal that has been discussed. But the primary pieces remain intact in the deal that now has anywhere from a dozen to 15 players. The prized chip, Anthony, would come to the Nets who also would receive Chauncey Billups from Denver and Rip Hamilton from Detroit.
That backcourt, the Nets have felt, would be enough to convince Anthony to accept an extension to play in New Jersey. The Nets, from the very first day, have been confident Anthony would be agreeable and their confidence apparently is about to be rewarded.
“There are a few matters the Nets still have to clean up,” a source maintained.
One matter was Detroit’s reluctance to accept Johan Petro in the deal but a source maintained that the matter could be resolved.
“No details but it is close,” one executive said.

That backcourt is worse than the one he plays with now.

I think it will be kind of cool for the Nets to have Carmelo when they move to Brooklyn.
The New York Knicks - Brooklyn New Yorkers rivalry could be epic.

I've been saying, Afflalo > Rip. Plus they've got Lawson coming off the bench.

I am curious. How many of you have left money on the table to go to your dream job?

it wouldn't be much of a rivalry against that team if the trade actually went through

Leon Rose is looking out for his client's best interests.
That client being LeBron James.
Steering Melo away from NY, knowing that he'd be stuck in mediocrity in NJ.

That's fair but this is a matter of good advice from his agents -- he's not leaving much and I believe any money on the table by waiting for the Knicks.

Amend the hypo to reflect reality. How many of you have refused to use your leverage to get paid and go to your dream job instead of caving in to your current employer by going to a dump just to get paid?

LOL, I was going to allude to the same thing. Miami is laughing if this happens. They wanted an easy path to the Finals...

I have. I left money on the table and a paid for car+house in Miami for my dream job. I also had to leave NY for my dream job, which hurt more than the money.

I have. I relocated to the other side of the country to be closer to mine and my wifes family, and left nearly $40K per year on the table.

Not sure why it's any more obvious than the other 3 times he was nearly traded until "something" happened...

Would he really be leaving money on the table? Two years as Net in Newark, as opposed to what he'd make as Knick in terms of advertisements? Then going to an unproven product in this market such as whatever the Nets become? I'm guessing the difference in what he'd make in terms of his contract would be dwarfed by what he'd lose as a marketing tool for the Knicks.

I'd take less to go to NY instead of a **** swamp/hell hole/whatever the Nets play in now a days.
That's just me though.
