Uhow, 13mi a year? No way! Let him go. If we could somehow make a SnT would be good, even if we get a low draft pick.

If you are paying him 4/52 you are paying for parts of his game that haven't yet developed and aren't guaranteed to develop. While he is still young and developing he is good enough as is to be an impact starter so maybe some team will overspend to secure his as-is talent and take the risk on his still developing game. I don't see many sure thing free agents this summer, though KG, Duncan, and Nash all being available would make for a fun one year title run!

Ray Allen is, as well, right?

Doesn't his mom stay in ORL?

I figure Nash will go to MIA. Maybe if the Celtics get stomped out badly enough by MIA, we can somehow get KG and/or Ray Allen, which would make Ryan pretty expendable. Or, at least, we wouldn't have to overspend on him.

Maybe with enough moving parts, we could end up with....

Draft PG/Nelson
Ray Allen/Redick
Iguodala/Turk
KG/Davis
Dwight/??

Probably a pipe dream, but I also think it's feasible.

Haha, that team would be sweet!

Another thing about Anderson and that offer, it would be the max allowed under the CBA. Would a team really consider Anderson to be worth the max? That just seems crazy to me.

I think its another case of a player that is clearly "more valued / more valuable" to Orlando than the rest of the league. Turk was a player like that where he "sky rocketed" under Orlando (Dwight/our system) and once out of it looked half the player (and by the time he came back he was out of his peak/prime and on the decline). While Anderson is young(ish) and still can improve, I do think other teams will recognise that his value is tied up a lot in what Orlando do and how they play.

While I really like Ryan, for me, I wouldn't pay him that much, especially since I don't feel we'll have Dwight that much longer, and without D12, Ryan becomes a much worse player (unfortunately).

I really like Ryan but if we give him that kinda deal...should be a 3/30 or 4/35 kind of deal...If not then Bye Bye Ryan and hello Ilyasova....or just play Harper more if we NEED to have a stretch-4

Here is that 4/52 figure in full context.

http://www.bulletsforever.com/2012/5/6/ ... n-anderson

Likely price tag: I think he's worth at least $10 million a year to somebody, whether it's the Magic or a team like the Sacramento Kings who have a need for shooting. I could see him getting the same kind of deal Antawn Jamison got in 2008 (four years, $52 million).

Ryno isn't worth $8-10M a year. Let him go. It's obvious that he's not effective without Dwight.

This is Austin Croshere all over again if the Magic do this.

leave it to otis to have our best trade asset become a free agent after the end of the season. i'm afraid if he isn't removed from the gm position he will show loyalty to ryan since he is "his" guy and greatly overpay him.

Well, Antawn Jamison was a career 20ppg player for more than 8 seasons, so his value is higher than Ryan's, IMO.

Don't forget part of his legacy will be that he was the GM that was running the show when we made our Finals run.

That will definitely be part of his legacy. However, his dismantling of the Finals team, poor choices with a virtually endless supply of money, and key bad trades will overshadow the good.

Throw in his poor repoire with Dwight Howard, who, if we ultimately lose, will cause Otis Smith's legacy and reputation to dive bomb drastically.

Smith can fix this, though I don't have too much faith in him. Not signing Anderson to a big contract, and instead saving that money for the '13 offseason or (finally) going after a go-to scorer, would be a move in the right direction.

Why he's fit in well: John Wall needs shooters, and there's no better shooter on the free-agent market. Anderson also rebounds well enough and has flashed a decent post game that can be used if the Wizards choose to exploit mismatches with him more than the Magic did.

Parts in bold have me scratching my head... who is this guy? Not sure I trust his projected salary if he thinks Ryno has a post game. Even if a team like the Wizards is desperate enough to overpay like that, I don't see Otis matching - not after this whole mess with Dwight and the moves that need to be made in the very near future.

Smith said: "We like him. We traded for him. We cleared a lot of space for him to get all those minutes that he was talking about earlier. So with that said, we want to keep him here in a Magic uniform. So we're going to do everything we can, and should, do to keep him in a Magic uniform."

I don't see the Magic letting Anderson go.
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:

"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

I hope not. That could mean goodbye to our cap space next year and consequently we're not keeping Dwight.
