Re: Should the Magic fire JV now or wait abit?
I personally jumped into the fire JV bandwagon after the Toronto game. That said, I did speak out of frustration. Is it possible that JV is teaching Elfrid some sort of lesson we just don't see even at the expense of some loses? I will hold a sliver of hope that there is a method to this madness.
I've been keeping track and my personal strikes against him so far are:
1) Questionable rotations - 0 mins for Harkless on several games, riding BG, Ridnour for too long, etc
2) Playing the inferior player in Ridnour the entire 4th, last 2 games. (Cost us 1 game)
3) Zero constructive critism of the team. I never hear him speak about what players or the team need to improve upon. Even on losses all he talks about is progress and the positives of each game. I'm hoping this is only done with the media. We need a coach that pushes our guys, develops our young players and hold everyone accountable including himself...not just a cheerleader. Has he admited to doing even one mistake? I used to love that about Stan.

Yep..this!!!
Much like yourself, I defended JV over the course of the past 2 seasons, but I have very little to no tolerance for the leader/coach to be behind the curve regarding the development of the team!
Basically, I was and still am looking for marked improvement in the area of the coaching and game planning!! It appears to me that JV and his staff are clueless at critical points of the game, where ability and matchups are vital! Dude is forever being out coached! Last nights game should not have come down to one shot deciding the outcome, especially a team as disjointed as the Knicks!
Add to this the Raptors game that should have been a win, and lets not forget the Bulls, which should have been another win.
Do not misread me here, I really love JV the person, which make my position on him hard to take, but he needs to show more improvement and better game preperation going forward here!!
In short, the development that I expected to see is not evident, JV needs to be the example in development as a first time head coach, if he is going to hold this team together! IMHO
Waiting for the Championship parade at Lake Eola!

After last night on the second of back to backs, I think Henny should give him 2 or 3 more games before giving Vaughn the boot.

If you sit back and look Vaughn is doing a great job so far, sure he isn't perfect but what coach is?
You guys have to realize that Vaughn is still trying to figure out what works because we do have 9 new players, no oladipo and benching players like Payton to help player development.
We've won 3 games already and our losses been to playoff teams and haven't been blowouts.
Considering all that I don't see how anyone can want Vaughn fired already.
We are a very new and young team it's gonna take some time.

It is ridiculous to start calling for his head already, especially since he has our team playing competitive ball, but even as someone who has been patient with vaughn it's kind of strange for him to play ridnour 16 straight minutes to end two games in a row, back to back games no less. With a star player yes, but who does that with a backup nearly 34 yr old vet pg? There must be a reason he's not even playing Payton a few minutes in the 4th.

Theory time... I think vaughn may be preparing payton for oladipo's return... he could continue to start games, but oladipo/fournier may end them.

I have zero doubt that Oladipo will start at PG with Fournier at SG, Payton will come off the bench. ridnour's minutes will take a big step back also.

I'm perfectly fine with this as long as Jacque is smart enough to pick the games to leave him in there, like home games when he's shooting and defending well. We can always go small in certain cases with Evan at the 3.

Ouch!!!!!!!!!
That soon, what would the benefit be in showing him the door before the end of the regular season?
I think Henny would give him this season, not the next unless we suddenly switch from rebuild to playoffs now mode!
I say this because bringing in a new coach is almost a must, unless you give the job to one of his noble assistants.....which I think would be even more damaging to the development of the team.
I am with you......if JV just can't get beyond himself at least by the all-star break, Henny needs to post this job opening in the classifieds!!!

It'd be pointless to fire him during the season.

For what it's worth, the Magic already have half as many road wins as last season.

Re: Should the Magic fire JV now or wait abit?
coming into this season, one thing i was looking forward is how this team would fare with a young core without afflalo and nelson. By that i was thinking about the chemistry of the team. Because above anything else, this is the most important aspect of a team. And you kno what, the team is playing a very attractive brand of basketball (well mostly for 3 quarters).. they be passing the ball well, they be moving well, and make extra passes and stuff like that, but it can get better and will at times. This aspect of the game is on the coach, and it seems like he's doing a good job in that department. but he has alot of on court coaching issues, but he can get better too at those things. The only thing i want the coach to do more constantly for now and make it a priority is having the players come in the 3rd quarter more aggressively on both defense and offense. Then he can focus on better his rotation.
to tell you the truth, our bench suck, unfortunately we cant have our starters to play 48 minutes, and so far they b averaging 34 minutes and more except for payton.. they even play almost 40 minutes on back to back games. having a weak bench also is to me the biggest problem for this team right now. cause you want to have at least a backup guard and a big to help u hold a lead, we be losing some leads by resting our starters for a lil bit. the starters of the other teams seem to always be resting more than ours.
I wanna see what vaugh can do with this team first when the team is healthy. having a healthy Oladipo and oquin back will help greatly.. hell if we have a healthy oquin i bet u we would be 4-5 right now if not 5-4... the coach is making mistakes here and there, but with so many new players the chemistry of this team should have been bad, but so far they playing very competitive and playing well offensively.. We should wait when we fully healthy to make any real judgement about the coach..

Re: Should the Magic fire JV now or wait abit?
I hardly see a fluid offense here. Vaughn just lets them play. I see so many times a player passes to another who ends up frantically looking for someone else to pass to. Just horrible. Mainly, it ends up with Fournier, Harris or Vooch just taking it upon themselves to create shots for themselves. It would be painful to watch at times if these young guys weren't so good. They really are bailing out the coach because team defense has been atrocious.
