The Mavericks and Harrison Barnes are replicating the 2000-01 Orlando Magic and Tracy McGrady. Well, not really, TMac was a freak of nature and had HOF talent, but there is a similarity of the numbers after 8 games.

2000-01 Magic: 3-5
McGrady: 21.8 points (19.4 FGA/43.2%, 2.1 3PA/29.4%, 6.0 FTA/72.9%), 7.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 2.3 steals, ,1.6 blocks, 2.8 turnovers, 1.9 fouls, 39.3 minutes, 26.6% usage

2016-17 Mavericks: 2-6
Barnes: 22.6 points (17.8 FGA/49.3%, 3.6 3PA/34.5%, 4.1 FTA/93.9%), 6.1 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.4 steals, 0.1 blocks, 1.0 turnovers, 1.9 fouls, 38.1 minutes, 25.6% usage

No love for Kemba and the Hornets?

Post#223 » by Bologna Smasher » Thu Nov 10, 2016 7:28 pm

Hornets are currently 6-1. Kemba is playing like an all-star. I don't see anyone talking about them or giving them any props. What does everyone think of them so far?

I am very surprised they are 6-1 especially after looking at the roster. I don't believe it's substantiate and I think they will end up being anywhere from a 5-8th seed in the playoffs.

Sample size. They can challenge for a top 4 team like last year but there have been examples of more talented teams starting hot but then fading(2014 Pacers). They are doing well for themselves and have completely blown past my expectations. Now if only Flip Murray can stop with these subliminal buzz messages

I've definitely given props. I'm glad Charlotte is doing big things this year, love to see other small market teams doing well. I thought they were good last year and would drop off after losing Lin and big Al but it definitely looks like that is not the case.

Clippers and Rockets are both fun teams....but are no different they have been every year. Harden is not suddenly something new. Clips have a horrible bench. This little early season run is a mirage

With all of the backlash on the amount of Bradley Beal's max deal I have thought is Nick Young better than Brad? This after years of watching both players.

I am happy for Nick Young because after Izzy Azalea people had written him off. I think he has a great coach in Luke Walton. Nick being from USC and Walton UCLA-- no no no wait. Wrong Walton. I was trying to make a comparison that didn't work. Arizona and USC are also in the same conference. There is some respect between coach and player

Since this is the premature reaction thread I'm going to say if Trump can be president then the Lakers can go to the NBA finals this year. Lakers vs Wizards.

Also please order more meds.

I wonder if my posts about Otto Porter are why they created this thread?

I think its the Pacers, lots of people have them in the top 3 at the east. Boston has injuries from key player and so as the Grizzlies. ABout the knicks, people didnt expect much from them aside from Rose...

Not just an all star, Kemba's been one of the very best players in the league. Of course, I don't expect him to continue shooting 47% from 3. But he's not getting nearly the attention others are getting for his hot start.

Julius Randle is ballin' out

Post#234 » by Lost Angel » Wed Nov 16, 2016 9:04 pm

over the summer, a lot of posters were quick to say Julius held little value, and had little chance of improving. he's clearly proving his doubters wrong, and had a triple double last night. with Luke Waltons uptempo offense, what do you view Julius' ceiling to be?

14/9/4/1/1 --> can he do even better?

I wouldn't say "balling out" but you can obviously tell he put in a lot of work during the offseason. His problem was defense and his jumper, he has looked good in those areas. I hope he becomes a potential All Star, only time will tell..

I think the Randle hype train is leaving the station prematurely.

Using him as a switchy center is a good move by Walton and unlocks Randle's game as a mini-Draymond Green. But if Green was a medicore defender who couldn't really shoot... he wouldn't be all that good.

If Randle continues to improve his shooting and D I think he can be a good starter, but not a star. If he doesn't take those big steps forward he can still be a viable rotation player, but not a core starter on a good team.

2nd year 1 of 9 players in the NBA to average a double double (11.3 points, 10.2 rebounds)
now is only 21 year old Averaging 14 and 9, can only get better after this....if you seen him play you can tell he has grown on the defensive side...

I'm sure he's better on the defensive end, but I think Walton's scheme is helping him a TON on that end.

I love the fact that they brought in Luke Walton for the team who is kind of molding him into Draymond Green on the offensive end, allowing him to grab the rebound and go. He has become an initiator for the offense which is key for a team that doesn't necessarily have a true PG in Russell.

He is shooting 55% also and has been a positive on the defensive end with a 105 DRTG and +2DBPM, getting that ~14/9/4/1/1 stat line in just 28m.

Isnt that what a coach is supposed to do though?

How many players have been brought to life by the San Antonio system but nowhere else? (Belinelli, Danny Green, off the top of the head)
