He's certainly nowhere near as good as Brian and Bill make him out to be. Like that play tonight where he slid behind 2nd base, got up, turned and made the throw to 1st and Brian made it sound like it was one of the best plays he's ever seen. Most shortstops make that play, especially where Arcia was positioned.

Well, since UZR, and similar metrics are an exact science, I stand down on my opinion. Arcia is nothing more than an average defensive shortstop, at best. The years and years that I've watched and studied the position be damned; I forgot that there were stats for everything. Sabermetrics don't lie. They never have, they never will...

I'll take sabermetrics' word over biased announcers and your "watching and studying." Unless you're at the game and watching multiple replays to see where the fielder started, how hard the ball was hit and how many other players would get to the same ball, then your eye test is far, far worse than UZR.

If his bat takes him there, he can learn on better fields than the **** fields in the lower minors.

As I already said, I stand down on my opinion. Sabermetrics tell you everything you need to know. I just wish I had referenced them before I made my ill-advised and uniformed initial post. I temporarily forgot that the "eye test" means absolutely nothing anymore in sports. I'm sorry, I should've known better. My bad. I was wrong. You win.

I assume Thames will get the start at 1st today. I'm very currious who will sit between braun and domingo.

He hasnt played in the field his JR year of college and part of his Soph year. He has a very long way to go. No need to rush anyone at this stage. Especially someone who hasntr even been a pro one calendar year.

Start Braun and Domingo, platoon be damned. You can't sit Braun at Petco.

UZR is a tough metric becaus eof the amount of shifts we play. Since he's often in the 2nd bas zone he gets dinged. He also has Shaw who doesnt have a ton of range next to him and poor fielders at 2B so theres also a ding there. UZR is a tough stat because of all it encompasses

I agree that Braun needs to be in the lineup today and maybe the simple answer is to leave him at 1st. I think as time goes on with injuries and slumps this situation will work itself out but there will be some interesting decisions early in the year. Thames might just be the odd man out for now. Today should give a little hint of their plan.

Heck if Braun proves to be good enough defensively at 1st they might eventually trade thames. Between agular and choi they would have options to back him up.

Yeah, I've been calling for Ducky's outright release and/or demotion since we acquired him last season. I fondly recall a game on the West Coast (?) last season when he was called on to Save a lead because the bullpen was expended. He proceeded to hang meatball after meatball. No movement on his pitches. I was done then. I'm done now. He's just a nothing pitcher. We have much much better options in the lower levels.

Jeez dude put on your brewers hat and just enjoy a fun game.

Don't have one.

How’d it taste by the way?

Holy ****, there could be a reason Braun isn't playing. I have no idea who this guy is but he's verified and his bio says he covers the Dodgers. This would be a pretty crazy left turn.
